  10. I can relate to that. Old female friend of mine totally worshipped him and had most of his LPs and went to all the Northern UK gigs. She was quite impressed with my 'George Benson Cookbook' LP.
  11. Sir Bradley Dame Cheri Lady Tracy
  12. Another recommendation for those boxes. Certainly an ear-opener for me and a very good overview of the earlier period of jazz for those of us who tend to go more for the later eras.
  13. Howard McGhee 'The Sharp Edge' (Dutch Fontana, stereo)
  14. Have a good one !
  15. There always seems to be what I can only describe as 'low signal to noise' with these US Atlantics, which can make them something of a disappointment. The Londons are a noticeable improvement, in that respect.
  16. Lots of mentions of that Devo picture disk LP in the comments on this article. I've got a copy of that one somewhere.. Sounds like an improvement to the overpriced tosh that they are churning out up in Malmsbury at the moment !
  17. Sad news and very sorry to hear this. RIP.
  18. Daniel - The one early mono Coltrane 'Atlantic' that I have is a 'Giant Steps' UK first issue on the London label. This one is a DG mono and its sound is easily the best of any Coltrane Atlantics that I have heard to date, so I am a convert to the monos. Very big, powerful sound - almost like a Blue Note of that vintage. I've got the 'Heavyweight Champion' box on vinyl and that sounds pretty good to my ears but if you can find those early monos in good nick for a reasonable price and especially on UK London, I say - go for it ! The first press US Atlantic issue for the 'Coltrane Jazz' would be black label, I guess?
  19. Jazzbo - it is wonderful, you must get hold of a copy of that one . The 'Miles & Gil' on vinyl is particularly good too.
  20. Sad news for sure. His stuff dominated my 1960s TV viewing !
  21. Miles Davis 'Live at the Plugged Nickel' (UK CBS 2LPs) Remember at the time this came out what an astonishing find this was !
  22. A good Seasonal excuse to crack open this box -
  23. I used to think that Michelob was the best of a bad bunch !
  24. Ooor Wullie Kaiser Wilhelm Henry Kaiser
  25. Miles Davis of course - alimony. Then there's also Synanon - Joe Pass (as mentioned), Arnold Ross, Frank Rehak.
