  1. Last night - The Canadian TV documentary on Lenny Breau put together by Lenny's daughter. Great film, great player.
  2. It's just an illusion. Rigor-mortis has already set in for most of us..
  3. The obvious next choices I would suggest would be: Bill Evans Riverside and Verve Recordings Anything by Cannonball Adderley (check out the current feature on BBC Radio 4 by Ken Clarke via I-Player) Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter on Blue Note Oliver Nelson Prestige, Impulse and Verve recordings Gil Evans George Russell (especially the Riversides) and another for Roland Kirk !
  4. Dexter Gordon Mosaic Select (Nights at the Keystone Vols 1-3), CD1
  5. George Chisholm Urbie Green George Bohannon
  6. McMaster version.
  7. Anyone else booked to attend this? Ian Carr Tribute QEH Looks like it's going to be a fine tribute, with reunions/recreations of Nucleus, the Michael Garrick 60s group and a performance of Ian's 'Northumbrian Sketches' (I've yet to hear it so looking forward to that one).
  8. Crikey, I find this story amazing. At 82-83 we are really lucky that Lee Konitz still does live gigs, never mind tour extensively, as he still does. Over the years, whether in Nth America or Europe one of the few people who I could guarantee there would be a good chance to see would be Lee - and he's always put in 100%. Glad to hear that he kept his cool. Heck, he even appeared on that German MPS Tribute DVD I was watching the other night, enthusing about touring with Albert Mangelsdorff in the 60s and also in the 70s with Pastorius/Mouzon.
  9. Patsy Palmer Farmer Palmer Jethro
  10. Bert Ambrose Ronnie Scott Ivanhoe
  11. Hank Mobley 'Roll Call' (Music Matters 2x45 rpm, stereo) - Astonishingly good. Other than finding an immaculate mint unplayed mono (ie. more chance of winning the football pools), this has to be classed as the 'definitive' vinyl version. Followed by - Kenny Dorham 'Round About Midnight At The Cafe Bohemia, Vol 1' (Music Matters 2x45rpm, mono). High hopes for this one too !
  12. Red Grooms Bridey Murphy Mary Mary Quite Contrary Mary Mungo Midge :rsmile:
  13. Art Blakey 'The Freedom Rider' (BN NY USA, mono)
  14. I guess so. Not suprising though - in view of the number of copies of this LP sold the original stampers must have been decimated. The quality assurance on this title sometimes had shortfalls too (I think I've mentioned to you my copy of the NY USA with the blank white label. They couldn't get them out of the door fast enough !)
  15. I hear that Lindt offers the best overall dynamics. The Plastylite of chocolate vinyl. I see he mentions the possibility of a Japanese licence deal. Maybe Hiroshi will start listing them?
  16. nothing obscure about that record where i come from. masterful. "troublemaker" even cam out on a Deram 45. now that is pretty tough to find. On this side of the big pond I'd bet that not too many people have even heard Cameron's name, much less listened to his music though. Man, I want a copy of that 45! Especially if the Anarchy spinner is included. Nice ! I've got a copy of the 'Off Centre' LP but the 45rpm 'Troublemaker' single is a tough one to find. It was reissued on the 'Jazzman' label some years back I think.
  17. I'd imagine they've gone the same way as these things: Gosh, I can still imagine the taste and texture! Can't have been around since the 60s. Good grief - I haven't seen that for the best part of 40 years ! Used to collect the cards from those and walk around with those sweet ciggies in my mouth thinking I was cool. How deluded.. And bring back Bazooka Joe !
  18. Do they put pipes in snowmen these days?
  19. The Art Blakey 'Jazz 625' can be purchased here:- Blakey DVD
