  1. I still have my Pathe Marconi DMMs of "The Rajah" and "Far Away Lands" and they are OK, although I'm no great fan of DMMs, sonically. The music of course is fabulous. The definitive "Rajah" in my view is the Toshiba CD, Picked that one up for £5 equivalent in Israel ! (and they had a "Far Away Lands" Toshiba at same price which I also snapped up).
  2. Saw a copy in London earlier this week. You get a mention in the front credits I think. It's a pretty big tome - mainly illustrations, not too much writing. Nice to see the 'Cosmic Music' original in there.
  3. Great news - and congratulations from me too.
  4. After the M62 was built I always thought that Manchester and Blackburn got very much closer to the Leeds/Bradford conurbation. Liverpool still feels light years away though - even from Manchester - in terms of mindset.
  5. Tony Robinson (Baldrick) reckons the Yorkshire border area around Barnsdale with the bandit raids on the old A1 road - and that his clan may have originated in Hebden Bridge (which, by some strange coincidence is where my direct ancestry goes back to, o dear ). Apparently his house was where Wakefield bus station now stands . More than likely he was an amalgamation of a few different Robin/Robert Hoods in the North. Friar Tuck was real and lived down in Sussex apparently but was nothing to do with Mr Hood. That remote farm house under the storm clouds looks like a good candidate for the family ancestral gaff.
  6. Yes, very best wishes
  7. Dave Goldberg Terry Smith Louis Stewart
  8. Just sifting through my Japanese collection: Art Farmer/Benny Golson Jazztet 'Meet The Jazztet' (Baybridge). Dobells £8.25 sticker on the back - a lot of money back then. To be followed with: 'Arranged By Montrose' - Jack Montrose/Bob Gordon (Toshiba Pacific Jazz)
  9. PM incoming for Onzy Matthews and Kirk on Warner Bros
  10. Boy/Girl/Whatever From Ipanema - Astrud Gilberto (Archie Shepp #1)
  11. Bob Shad Chad Blake Blakey (the bus inspector )
  12. Thanks Brownie - pretty nice set of coasters there
  13. Aha - all it said on the listing was 'Evan Parker Quartet', no details. If it's with Ray Warleigh I'm double tempted to go as I'm a big fan of his playing. Sounds like an intriguing combination.
  14. Looks like the one, more or less lacquer less. And the sound that he got out of it was totally inimitable. Sort of smoky, laid back - just like his classic Blue Notes. When I walked into the club he was soloing on 'Recorda Me' for a good long, typically cryptic solo and it was like being transported into Van Gelders. If it's the same instrument as on 'Page One' then no suprise I guess. Sadly, I only caught one set of it and I don't think he did an encore.
  15. What was this originally released as? I don't support Fresh Sounds/Lonehill/RLR etc. Workshop Jazz I think, the Motown label.
  16. Happy Birthday !
  17. He's on at the Vortex in London on the 22nd with his quartet. Tempted to check it out.
  18. If that was the instrument I saw Joe play in 1990 there was hardly any lacquer left on it !
  19. Les Condon Tubby Hayes Jimmy Deuchar
  20. A huge framed print of Larry Young' Unity' sleeve, picked up in Habitat some years ago, of all places. Couldn't believe it when they started selling that. It's still available by the look of it: Unity
  21. Cannon and Ball Zoe Ball Mr & Mrs Balls
  22. Seems like only yesterday that that one fetched around a $K... Quantitive easing I guess
  23. Last I heard it got resolved - they are certainly still actively hosting gigs. In fact I have never been there so with another London visit coming up I may pay a call. I've got the feeling Art Themen is playing there next week so may check it out. That Dick Morrissey 'Storm Warning' LP on Mercury was recorded at the Bulls Head I believe. Would like a copy of that one !
