  4. Good suggestion.
  5. I've read that he first met Micheline when she was a child when visiting/staying at the pharmacy with Art Blakey and the Messengers.
  6. Happy Birthday Mr Shearing. Mosaic box at the ready in tribute...

  9. Wow - never knew about that particular Savoy compilation. Must have been one of those later 'US-only' issues I guess. Will keep an eye open for it.
  10. Sorry to hear that - it deserves to be seen. Over in the UK a possible outlet for viewing might be BBC4. Potentially this could fit in well with one of their 'jazz themed' evenings which they do occasionally - or potentially if they were to do an evening/season on big bands. Just a thought - might be worth trying the BBC. Good luck !

Damn - this is a shock. I'd hoped to see him live but never did I'm afraid. Like Les Paul, he left a major mark though. RIP.
  12. Sad news. Inevitable given his advanced years but he had a great innings and for sure left his mark on music. Great that he managed all those latter years gigs at Iridium - RIP.

  14. It lived up to its name !
  15. Yeah, he was resident in London for a while around 1970. There's an interview with him in Jazz Monthly from around that time. Will try and dig it out. that would be great!! JAZZ MONTHLY, 187 SEPTEMBER 1970, UK, RED RODNEY ON RECORD/ LORD BUCKLEY/ RAY DRAPER INTERVIEW (also, the february 1971 downbeat seems to contain something...) That's the one. There's a photo of him and the wife in Hyde Park also.

  18. It's never happened to me. I would think that Mosaic would be one of the last companies to do this. Debitting the gift card that Brownie mentions is more understandable though - I would suspect that even that is likely an oversight.
  19. This is all good to know. I'll look out for a mono - wonder what the Japanese pressing (Toshiba?) sounds like?
  20. I'm here for the 'Name Three People' thread.
  21. I have the feeling that at least one of these I bought at the old Tower Records Picadilly Circus had the slipcase. The plot thickens further !
  22. But is it an EU pressing? If it is, it certainly complicates matters... I don't have it at hand, but I'd guess yes, it is. Imports are rare and ridiculously prized here, I wouldn't have bought that one for such a prize (although it *is* a nice disc). Weren't all of the Verve Elite Editions manufactured in the US? - ie. all of them are imports for us Europeans.

  24. Which reminds me of that fab Sam Goody's that used to be just Nth of Times Square. At one time, absolutely packed out with jazz. I wonder what that place is now?
  25. Collaboration with Adrian Mitchell for an early 70s spoken voice/musical production - the first 'William Blake' themed work of these two. Goes for fairly big bucks.
