  1. There is significant overlap with the Debut 10CD set but some significant material that is not in the big box from John LaPorta, Kenny Dorham, Sam Most and Max Roach (with Mobley) - for those who don't have the individual CDs (ie. me). The booklet is also nice and supplements the Mingus 10CD book (it's totally different in content). Some nice pics too. I would recommend the Debut 4CD box - but then that's just my opinion. It's also nice as a sampler/appetizer for the big set.
  2. For the UK Org fraternity, this website is a good laugh and all too shockingly true. Chav Towns Translation:- Chav (English) = '(Young) Cheap White Trash' (US)
  3. CDs are great for convenience (unbeatable in that respect) but I love the way the vinyl sound really draws you in. And as for Blue Note deep grooves, they are in a league of their own. Vinyl lives !
  4. Holy £$&! - Time to sell up and buy some RVG CDs
  5. That would be my immediate first question too. Also - what were the circumstances of the Nilva recording with Big John Patton ('Soul Connection'). Was this a working group and how did he find the session, working with Big John.
  6. You got your 'Destination Out' from Frank Wolff direct, Brownie? That must add at least another $500 to the value. Certainly paid a heck of a lot less for my mono copies of each of these. Allan's '$200 on a good day' is about right I think.
  7. This is easily the highest I've seen this Jackie McLean original reach, brilliant though it is: Destination Out Could the 'highest bidder' really be Rudy Van Gelder?
  8. After one listen (very nice I might add) I have a case of 'baritone block'
  9. Anthony Williams 'Spring' (BN NY USA mono)
  10. McCoy Tyner 'Expansions' (BN Liberty stereo)
  11. 'Stomu Yamash'ta's East Wind' (Island Pink Label)
  12. Currently to be seen on BBC TV in a set of repeats of the 'Avengers' at her 60s best She's a granny now but still cuts the mustard ! When is it on? Is it on BBC2? BBC4. Thursday evening at 7.10 I think.
  13. Miles Davis 'Live Evil' (Dutch CBS)
  14. CCS 'CCS' (RAK) Matching Mole 'Matching Mole' (UK CBS) Soft Machine 'Seventh' (UK CBS)
  15. Stanley Turrentine 'A Chip Off The Old Block' (BN NY USA mono)
  16. Art Blakey 'Holiday For Skins Vol 1' (BN 47W3rd DG mono)
  17. Larry Young 'Into Somethin' (BN NY USA mono)
  18. This one from Elmo is also very highly recommended (it has the session with Coltrane and Mobley) and can be had for 2.99 Euros at Zweitausendeins.
  19. My latest batch of goodies has arrived from Zwei. The 'Debut Story' is a beauty - as expected there is some overlap with the Mingus Debut box but also some great stuff (such as the John La Porta tracks) which are not in the Mingus box. Great booklet too, strongly recommended for Debut freaks.
  20. Looks like I've lost around 2000 posts. I had all of my hair back then !
