On the next page: "Cannonball Quits Baltimore Club Over Jim Crow "Announcing his intention to play only to non-segregated audiences, jazz alto sax artist Julian (Cannonball) Adderley cancelled an engagement at Baltimore's Villanova club after one night when the owner reversed his no-discrimination assurances. Questioned by the artist between appearances about the policy, the owner reportedly explained pressure from the Baltimore police department forced the Jim Crow arrangement. Previously assured admission but denied entrance opening night, a group of Negroes and local musicians met Cannonball outside the club."

Shawn, I'm glad you're still hanging in. Someone close to me recently had some major issues and was hospitalized and in a psychiatric unit for a week. She has done a lot of work there and in a day treatment program and has gotten a lot of help and is getting better. I hope you have some resources in your community that can give you some support. Struggles that seem permanent and impossible to overcome may turn out to be things that can be dealt with even if a little bit at a time.

I hope to get to at least one of the Roscoe concerts. Not sure of my schedule yet. I can't use the travel time as an excuse.

New: Robert Johnson -The Complete Original Masters
alankin replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Miscellaneous Music
Hellhound On My Ale 2011 marks the 100th birthday of Mississippi Delta bluesman Robert Johnson who, according to legend, sold his soul down at the crossroads in a midnight bargain and changed music forever. Working again with our friends at Sony Legacy (yup, the same folks we did our Miles Davis-inspired Bitches Brew with), Dogfish Head pays tribute to this blues legend by gettin the hellhounds off his trail and into this finely-crafted ale. Hellhound is a super-hoppy ale that hits 100 IBUs in the brewhouse, 10.0 ABV, 10.0 SRM in color, and dry-hopped with 100% centennial hops at a rate of 100 kilos per 100 barrel brew-length. Can you tell we at Dogfish are stoked for this mighty musical centennial? To accentuate and magnify the citrusy notes of the centennial hops (and as a shout out to Robert Johnsons mentor Blind Lemon Jefferson) we add dried lemon peel and flesh to the whirlpool. http://www.dogfish.com/brews-spirits/the-brews/occasional-rarities/hellhound-on-my-ale.htm -
Grooves-inc isn't listing the new BS/SN boxes yet. (I may go back and the the Rava and/or Motian boxes from them -- their prices still seem pretty good.) Amongst the new boxes, is anyone familiar with the discs on the Braxton set? I think I only have one of them. The Steve Lacy Soul Notes that I have are pretty good. I probably have too many of the individual titles for me to consider getting the new set.
