Jim, I asked my wife (who is a pediatrician) to read through this thread. She didn't have any great diagnostic thoughts, but strongly recommended you continue to hound the academic neurology department you've already called. She says a lot of people call and leave messages, then complain two weeks later that nobody calls back. I know you guys aren't in that situation, and certainly that's not great business, but she said "just call until you get someone on the line--as many times as it takes". She also said that this might not be something an ER will be able to pick up on or help with. So I guess the operative word is, be a pain in the ass until you get someone on the line who can help you. Sorry we couldn't offer more help; as with the others, you guys are in our thoughts. Take care of yourselves.

Paul, that's great GREAT news. I had no idea you were trying to get that in your bag of tricks. I haven't taken the test, but I have several friends who did (two who weren't in the lucky 66% percent), so I've witnessed first hand what it takes. A HUGE accomplishment--well done!

A receipt should solve any concerns! I mean, a quick look around will demonstrate that lots of us are into lots of different stuff...Indian cooking, for example! (<-- Maren!). Great idea, as with last year, Dan, and sign me on up!

Larry, if you wanted to automate the process, there are tools. Whenever I review a deposition transcript these days, it comes with an index that's computer-generated. It includes every word, and the corresponding page number(s). Clearly someone tells it (or the software automatically does this) to remove words like "a", "and", "the", etc.; but that might be a place to start if you can get Yale to let you have access to the electronic version of the galleys...

Be warned that the Bernie Worrell disc is all funk except for 2 tracks (15 minutes) of the Worrell/Parker/Williams organ trio and two tracks with a string quartet (conducted by Karl Berger, no less). The remainder is stone funk from the Clinton clan - George, that is. SOLD! I thought that track was great. Bernie can play, man--I saw him live in Portland a few years ago with the "Woo Warriors"--they really turned out the funk and jams and jazz that night. I will definitely be picking this up.
