  1. Paul, that's great GREAT news. I had no idea you were trying to get that in your bag of tricks. I haven't taken the test, but I have several friends who did (two who weren't in the lucky 66% percent), so I've witnessed first hand what it takes. A HUGE accomplishment--well done!
  2. A receipt should solve any concerns! I mean, a quick look around will demonstrate that lots of us are into lots of different stuff...Indian cooking, for example! (<-- Maren!). Great idea, as with last year, Dan, and sign me on up!
  3. Happy birthday, Paul!
  4. Gerald Wilson, "Feelin' Kinda Blues" Great record!
  5. Got mine two days ago. Thanks! This is great stuff--looking forward to discussing it!
  6. Larry, if you wanted to automate the process, there are tools. Whenever I review a deposition transcript these days, it comes with an index that's computer-generated. It includes every word, and the corresponding page number(s). Clearly someone tells it (or the software automatically does this) to remove words like "a", "and", "the", etc.; but that might be a place to start if you can get Yale to let you have access to the electronic version of the galleys...
  7. Happy birthday, Maren! Hope you can get (or cook!) some great Indian food to celebrate!
  8. Have a great day!
  9. Sounds great, Dan! Have a great one!
  10. Be warned that the Bernie Worrell disc is all funk except for 2 tracks (15 minutes) of the Worrell/Parker/Williams organ trio and two tracks with a string quartet (conducted by Karl Berger, no less). The remainder is stone funk from the Clinton clan - George, that is. SOLD! I thought that track was great. Bernie can play, man--I saw him live in Portland a few years ago with the "Woo Warriors"--they really turned out the funk and jams and jazz that night. I will definitely be picking this up. Thanks for hipping us to it, Mike!
  11. Have a great one, Chris!
  12. Sidney Bechet Volume 1, Olympia Concert--BN 7029--$2.98, at a record store no less--not much surface noise, either!
  13. Sidney Bechet--Olympia Concert, Paris, 1954 (original BN 10")!
  14. Have a great one!
  15. Amir, any further thoughts on this set?
  16. Wow, Al--I'm really glad everything is alright. Happy halloween indeed!
  17. Well, an update, if anyone's interested! I've accepted the offer, and will be heading west at a time to be determined--in all events, no later than the end of February. I told the senior parter at my firm today--he couldn't have been more gracious. It helps that he's familiar with (and knows the senior partner at) the firm I'll be joining, and realizes I'm not moving across town to a competitor. I nearly broke down during the conversation when he told me I was welcome to stay as long as I wished. I've just never had a position where I've truly enjoyed working with everyone. Now I have to go around and tell all the other partners. So it's off to the west with me; Gail will follow at some point, probably around June or July. No big thing--we've been separated for months on end before. Plus, airfare is so cheap right now that I should be able to fly back here for odd 3-day weekends--I can't miss out on the remainder of our Philadelphia Orchestra subscription! It's overwhelming and emotional, but it certainly feels good to have "gotten off the pot," if you know what I'm saying! Thank you so much for your posted comments--they gave us a lot of food for thought as we slogged our way through what, in the end, was about a three-month decision. Look out, Johnny E--I'm going to darken your doorway soon!
  18. I hear ya, but I always viewed the signatures as sort of a gateway to the soul, y'know? I take your point, Al--but at one point, I got frustrated that sigs took up as much space, if not more, than folks' actual posts! I turned the "feature" off, and have never looked back--and let the words be the window into the soul.
  19. Or, one could always turn all signatures off...
  20. Oh yeah. My fast food guilty pleasure: Phoebe's Barbeque. Freakin' YUM.
  21. Lon, would you be so kind as to explain "building the curry"? I'm totally intrigued. I have madras curry powder, use it and love it, but have not considered getting "this far" into the ingredients. Inquiring minds want to know! Are we talking mortar & pestle, or ??? Thanks!
