  4. Thanks for your concern. I was only aware of the incident/tragedy at 9pm (1pm GMT) on the 26th - i.e was not affected. However, apartment dwellers 50km away from where I am felt the quake tremors. The worst hit are those living on the coastal areas of Sri Lanka, India and Indonesia and to a lesser extent Thailand and Malaysia. Bali was unlikely impacted in any way. From news reports, the tsunamis/tidal wave that hit the shores were as high as 6-7 metres (not sure if exagerated) and reached 1-2 km inland in certain places. Terrifying. Death toll is about 11000 and climbing. I guess the toll could have been reduced if each country had an early warning system to prepare for calamities such as this one. The tsunamis only reached certain land areas 3-4 hours after the quake.
  5. Edmond Hall/James P Johnson/Sidney de Paris - Blue Note Jazzmen

  14. What's the opinion on these Jazz At The Philharmonic titles? Which one to start with? ..plus a few more.
  15. I'm filing mine right next to the Basie discs. No reason, just for convenience. Wait, maybe there are a couple of reasons after all.

Hope the following offers some consolation: Pinholes
  17. If you're into classic New Orleans jazz and some 'stomping' music, then there are some very good titles on the label, in particular those Kid Ory ones. Any one of the following albums would give you a good sampling of the music. My personal favourites are the George Lewis Beverly Cavern Sessions, especially vol.1 which has a beautiful version of George's signature song Burgundy Street Blues. Also this one for some piano solos: Luckey & The Lion - Harlem Piano I would mention the Lu Watters and Yerba Buena Jazz Band which has a different style from the New Orleans musicians, but from the few songs I heard, I wasn't too impressed by the playing. Perhaps someone would like to put in a good word for them.
  18. Fantasy binge: Art Farmer - Sextet Joe Henderson - Milestone Years box Mongo Santamaria - At The Village Gate Duke & Billy Strayhorn - Piano Duets/Great Times Duke & Ray Brown - This One's For Blanton Duke - Harlem Wes - Movin' Along A dozen or two more to come.
  19. Just bought 9 OJCs online and 3 from the local store and will be placing an order for 25 OJC/OBC/GoodTime Jazz titles to celebrate the New Year.
  20. Someone please remind me to get these Betty Roche albums in the near future.
