I haven't pre-ordered in a while but this one is too tempting. I'm in. This is the first time I've ordered with their new web-based ordering system. I have yet to receive an order confirmation. Is this normal?

Peter Gabriel – Back To Front 2012 - 09.24.12 Boston, MA. I was there. 10 years ago already. My how time flies. My recollection of this show was that it was very poorly attended, which Wkipedia confirms. I bought tickets in the first row of the upper balcony, way at the back, because I didn't want to have to wear ear plugs. I got there and they told us that the upper sections were closed and here are my "upgraded" seats... right at the side of stage next to a wall of speakers. I sat down in that seat for about 10 seconds and said, "No way" and went back to the person who handed me the tickets. I asked for tickets further back. She looked at me like I had two heads. I moved back about 3 sections and it was still too loud for my right ear. But it was a really good show. Peter looked much older than 62 up on the big screen, but his voice was pretty strong. I don't think he's come back to Boston again since this show.

From Feather's liner notes... Of 'Gary's Notebook', Lee says, "Gary's a friend of mine, and he's real serious - quite an intellectual guy. No matter what he's doing, whether he's riding the subway or just sitting around the house, he's always doodling, or figuring something out - he's a musician too and he's working with the Schllinger system. The tune is a blues, which is a simple form, but there's a lot to play. The line is not too simple, and that's the way Gary is - a basic guy but kind of deep." That sounds like a different Gary.

First rock records with extended improvisation
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Rabshakeh's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Not first nor likely even long enough for "extended", but my favorite rock improvisational jam is the Stones' "Can You Hear Me Knocking". -
Sheila will be performing at the Mad Monkfish in Boston on December 16th. As an added bonus, she will have Yoko Miwa's great piano trio backing her. There will be a 7:00 & 9:00 show. Try to buy tickets early and get a table near the stage. The Mad Monkfish is a restaurant as well as a jazz bar, so not everyone there is into the music - if you get my drift. I wish I could make it. I have a prior commitment.

Horace Silver Quintet Live New York, Revisited
Kevin Bresnahan replied to romualdo's topic in Re-issues
When did Hat Art/ezz-thetics go full bootleg? This stuff isn't anywhere near PD in Switzerland and there's no mention of "licensed from" on the CD art:- 34 replies

Bumping this to the top... I was perusing a "What are you listening to now" thread and Kloss' name came up. Does anyone know how he's doing?

While I was a bit too old for Sesame Street, my sister watched it all the time, and with only one TV in the house, I watched it a bit too. Looking back at it now, I realize it was "pre-school" before that was a thing and Bob McGrath was a big part of it.

2005 Holiday Tunes for you!
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
For new arrivals here at the Big O board, you should know about organissimo's Christmas tunes. These links still work as far as I can tell. Ho ho ho. -
AM Jazz Stations Back in the Day?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
When I was a kid, I had a paper route. They had a contest for adding new customers. I won. My prize was a GE AM transistor radio. This was the radio: -

The put 3 of the 6 tracks on the compilation "A Stranger in Town". I didn't release this CD had material that wasn't on other CDs, so I never even thought about picking it up.

Christine McVie has died at the age of 79. I was a big fan of Fleetwood Mac for quite a while. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/christine-mcvie-keyboardist-singer-fleetwood-194810349.html

What vinyl are you spinning right now??
Kevin Bresnahan replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Hino has seemed to disappear or retire since that unfortunate incident with his student back in 2017. I had always hoped to get a chance to see & hear him play. That looks unlikely now. -
It's on this CD: The same track soulpope refers to above is found in the 7 CD box set called "Live Trane - The European Tours". It's actually from Stockholm in 1962, not 1963 as the YouTube video title says. I think they are the same recording though.

It doesn't look like any of the Heath Brothers' 4 Columbia LPs have ever been on CD, even in Japan. Weird.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
George played great but he's not in good physical shape. He's not mobile at the moment. Hopefully he can regain his feet in the future. -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I saw The Cookers last night in Portsmouth. Good times with a lot of my local Jazz buds. The band was cooking. Eddie Henderson, David Weiss, Billy Harper, Donald Harrison, George Cables, Cecil McBee & Billy Hart. The only negative was that my ears were ringing for quite a while after the show due to Hart's incessant use of his cymbles. I forgot he was in the drum chair... I usually bring an ear plug for my right ear when Billy's playing. -
Even if you use one of these cloud servers, you should still have a local back-up of your most prized files. These is nothing in your service contract with any cloud company saying, "We will never go out of business".
