  1. I am going to wait to hear a sound sample until I buy. If it's in good sound, I'm in. Bootleg quality - nah.
  2. On Record Store Day (4/23/2022), Reel To Reel is releasing a live recording of Pepper Adams with the Tommy Banks Trio titled "Live at Room at the Top". Blurb here: https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/14738 Only 1000 copies being pressed and I am not standing in those asinine RSD lines so I guess I'll have to see if any are left TDARSD (the day after Record Store Day) or wait for the CD release. Does anyone know if the CD release will have more material?
  3. I can't get my 2nd booster until May. You are still supposed to wait 6 months after the last one, right?
  4. Some bullshit? Only some?? I somehow mange to see a lot more than you then. Avoid the hardware discussions if you want to keep your sanity. There are some real loonies in that forum.
  5. Working from home today as my boss informed me that he tested positive yesterday and we had met yesterday afternoon for a bit in his office without masks albeit at a good distance (~8 feet). Tested negative today. Hopefully negative tomorrow too. I was supposed to meet a friend I haven't seen in almost 3 years due to Covid and now we had to cancel. He flies back to CA Friday. Covid still sucks.
  6. I pre-ordered Ben Allison's latest, "Moments Inside" on vinyl. Ben is an interesting player and on this one, he's gone to the mellow side. From the samples, it sounds like a good combination.
  7. If it bothers you, I have been told that these releases have not been licensed so they are technically bootlegs. If I see the music on a Amazon Prime or YouTube, I'll give it a listen, but they aren't getting any of my money.
  8. Curtis Counce - You get more bounce with Curtis Counce! (Contemporary/Analogue Productions). I've managed to pick up a few of these 33 rpm Analogue Productions LPs over the years and they have all sounded really good. This one is no exception. Nice mellow date.
  9. Spinning this one again. It's just OK. The funk tune 'Aurora' with the whacka-whacka guitar and electric bass remind me a bit of Sly & the Family Stone.
  10. I finally got around to ordering this. I got an e-mail from Artist Share about another artist and thought, "Shit... I never got around to ordering that Maria Schneider disc"!
  11. Herb Ellis - softly... but with that feeling (Verve). I have this on a 1981 Japanese pressing. Ellis with Victor Feldman on vibes, Leroy Vinnegar on bass and Ronnie Zito on drums. I haven't spun this in a while. Polite jazz. I'll have to spin something a little more lively after this to wake up.
  12. In listening to this record, I was reminded of the many times I managed to see/hear George live. It also reminded me that as great of a tenor player George was/is, that circular breathing thing, which shows up a couple of times on this record, is kinda boring. It was really cool the first time I saw/heard it but by the 2nd or 3rd time, I was more like "eh". He basically does the same thing with it every time. No matter, it doesn't ruin this record at all and George does play his ass off. Higgins is pretty good too.
  13. Neko Case - Middle Cyclone. I bought this one Record Store Day many years back. Clear vinyl. Music is just OK for me. The thing I'm not a fan of is the dynamic compression the recording engineer applied. Everything sounds loud. No nuance at all.
  14. George Coleman - Ronnie Scott's Presents George Coleman Live (Pye). Great record. Whoever recorded this did a great job too.
  15. I take it that you are not married?
  16. Does anyone know why the Japanese producers added the 's' to shout or even better - why they didn't use the Reid Miles cover that was in the vault?
  17. A Tommy Flanagan kinda night... Just finished: Now playing:
  18. Both of those CDs are available as a two-fer: https://www.discogs.com/release/12618078-Freddie-Hubbard-And-Woody-Shaw-The-Freddie-Hubbard-And-Woody-Shaw-Sessions
  19. Wasn't this recorded in stereo though? RVG started recording in stereo in March of 1957 and by May when this was made, he was recording all sessions in stereo. I know that there have been LPs released with "Electronically rechanneled for stereo" stamped across the cover when the music is in actual stereo.
  20. Ah - the famous Johnny Gri... err, I mean Hank Mobley two-fer.
  21. Cancer sucks. Cancer plus Covid must've really sucked. Damn. Too young.
  22. I'll miss his posts here. From his Facebook page, it looks like his death may have been related to or due to Covid. In his last post, he wrote that he was having a rough time with it even though he was vaccinated and boosted.
  23. It's a pain at home because you need special upward-firing speakers and the only ones on the market are not what you might consider audiophile. These upward-firing designs need to be placed properly to get the right reflections too. As much as I love surround sound, I won't be going for this. Atmos speaker:
  24. I had to laugh when you mention warbling under a cover photo of "Black Fire".
  25. There are 2 pressings of this on vinyl and there are several copies of each for sale on discogs. Also, you might get more responses if you said what you were willing to pay for this LP.
