Yes sir. They filed a law suit themselves and talked a lot of shit during and now, after the process. I get the shit talk about Gaye's greedy kids and all that but the lesson learned here is if you think people are looking for a payday, sometimes the cheaper way is to give it to them. You're right it could have been simply...., out of respect for Marvin, we're going to end this thing.

What Movie Did Jimmy Smith Have a Dramatic Role In?
catesta replied to sgcim's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Órale!! -
Frankly, I never really gave a shit or cared for the song. In an October radio show interview, Smokey Robinson said “Part of the melody is in there! It was absolutely a rip off!”. Furthermore, he likes Robin Thicke and told him the same thing. It's hard for me to doubt Smokey.

So, who is this "unidentified singer"?
catesta replied to Son-of-a-Weizen's topic in Miscellaneous Music
That's a good question. Since the date was not recorded maybe he just forgot. -
I heard him briefly on the radio a few weeks ago. What he did for animals and with the bulk of his wealth is very admirable. RIP, Sam Simon.

I heard an Entourage movies was coming this summer so I went back and re-watched from season 1. Have the final episode of Season 8 left for tonight and I'll be done. Making my way through Season 4 of The Wire. Current season of House of Lies is like all the others. Entertaining with laughs but the whole Marty and Jeannie love/hate thing is tiresome.

Nice playing. Still, I have to say fuck him. His shit goes beyond just a musician expressing a political opinion or view, he's obsessed with his hatred of Jews. I mean read the shit he wrote after the Charlie Hebdo massacre. I agree censorship is not always the answer, but I tend to agree this is more of a banning or outright refusal to give him the stage. I definitely agree that in this case ,it has only given him more publicity and another reason to speak his bullshit. This is not to say the venue was wrong though. On a side note, I really miss the political portion of this forum.

I've enjoyed watching many of the episodes and some not so much. I haven't really been keeping up with the show since Hall fired Paul Pesco as guitarist/music director. It think it showed a lack of class on Hall's part.

I don't know how personal he was trying to keep the whole gender transformation thing. I'm sure there is a new TV show on the horizon.

I'm usually a 20% minimum tipper for good service and have gone way above that for excellent. All things considered we should not be tipping on totals that include taxes and over priced wine but I guess I've just become lazy and include it all. NYC is out of control. Everyone with their fucking hands out. I never understood why some feel obligated to tip postal workers and City sanitation. I quit that shit big time. Same drill with the doorman at residential buildings. I mean, I can see doing a little something around the holidays but I have friends that tell me stories of how they feel like they are constantly being shaken down. I've witnessed a doorman give a friend the cold shoulder, basically turning his back to him as we entered the building. When I asked why, my buddy replied, "I didn't tip him for giving me the number of a housekeeper and he won't let it go". Automatic gratuities included for larger groups also rubs me the wrong way. I see it both ways but it can lead to marginal service considering 20% is already added.

I didn't really know shit about the Indian gangs and local New Orleans musicians until the HBO series Treme came along. Now I'm familiar with a lot of the names mentioned and feel like I know a lot more of what Big Chief Dollis was about. RIP

I too have been re-visiting The Wire recently. I'm on Season 3, almost to at the end where Brother Mouzone makes his re-entry. The show is filled with great characters and I've always appreciated that the writers/producers gave us a lot of show, each show rather than the 47 minutes of bullshit that leaves you scratching your head.

What is your typical morning meal?
catesta replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Most weekday mornings consist of a bagel when home in NY. I'm fortunate to be near a place that still knows how to make a bagel. When home out west such as this morning it's usually an English muffin, oatmeal or something like Cheerios. Breakfast is my wife's favorite meal so for her on the weekends I'll do bigger and better. -
Belated birthday wishes to the gracious Ann Nessa.

Oscar winners who offed themselves

Ha! I can relate. My wife was cleaning out the fridge and while she was doing the final rinse (under the kitchen sink faucet) of the glass shelf that covers the produce drawers, the fuckin' glass shattered and it went everywhere including down the drain. I was pissed. Not at her and not so much that the glass broke as much as the time I was going to spend helping her clean it up and having to search online for a replacement piece. I was watching good shit on TV at time of accident. -
I didn't know the name but easily recognized the face. RIP

RIP I too loved the show and still do.

Honestly, I've passed on it for no other reason than I assumed it would just annoy me. I'll give it a try based on your recommendation though.

Traditional Christmas dinner?
catesta replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
My family continues the Christmas Eve tradition of the Feast if the Seven Fishes. This year was a cannellini bean puree that consists of olive oil, lemon juice and zest, parsley, garlic and crab meat served on crostini, plus... Shrimp Scampi Linguine with Clams Mussells Baked Clams with Oregano and Bread Crumbs Calamari Poached Lobster in a Marinara over Spaghettini Christmas Day was a beautiful Antipasto of imported meats, cheeses, olives, marinated artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, grilled eggplant caponata and deviled eggs. Followed by my Mother's Crespelle (Manicotti and my Arancini. I have a Nephew who is the cheese guy for Whole Foods so we do a chees course at the end. This time was all from France for my brother-in-law. -
Six recommended seasonal beers
catesta replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
While not a big fun of most micro stuff, I did enjoy these. Winter Bourbon Barrel Brown and Starry Night Stout. Both are from Grand Canyon Brewing Company. -
The Lasorda is one of the best. For those that have never heard it, here is an enjoyable little one from William Shatner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMV1bwXyi54&feature=player_detailpage And of course, the Orson Welles "Frozen Peas" commercial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzatDfq1K7I

Those four are annoying. Add McCartney's, Wonderful Christmas Time and All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth. I'm sure there are some others but these top my list. Oh, I guess the dogs barking Jingle Bells. It was cute when I was a child, but not so much anymore. But I take the bad with the good. I mean we hear the music once a year and some of it is really beautiful stuff. My Step-Daughter always says she hates hearing me play it, but I know she's just trying to be hard and way too cool for it.
