I agree, Friday seems to have it all. John does shake it up some on Saturday and there are some nice explorations and incredible moments! If he'd been there all week. . .w o w. . . .

Who does? I have a defective disc on this set. . . disc two. . . has that noisey mist of digital distortion on the third third of the disc.

It was the ABC obit so who knows? In either case he was not 21.

I know this from the Japanese version. Very nice performances. (Not sure all of it had been originally released. . . .Much of it is available on two earlier OJC cds). If you like Garland, then there's lots to like here.

Reiner, I think Brandon's thumbs down was towards your idea of only jazz discussion! I still have some of the vinyl and the early cds of most of the albums. I probably won't buy the box or the separate remasters, I don't listen to these that often at all anymore, but great music! (And man that Stop Making Sense tour was something to see!)

Now reading the A. J. Albany memoir "Low Down." Scary. Dark. Excelent writing as others have pointed out.

I've dropped dimes on a number of the Verve Vault reissues. For one thing those that I've bought just don't show up in the used bins. . . . For another, most have been digital copies of Japanese cds that cost twice as much when I can find them. . . WHEN I can find them. The downloads sound very good to me on my system. I can usually get all the information that I need and a cover image from the site and other sites and don't feel I'm missing much. (I hardly ever read liner notes any longer, which is funny when I consider how I used to pore over them!)

One tune of the three is presented in its entirety as an extra feature in the Ken Burns Jazz dvd set, disc two. Another is available on the dvd within the Hip-O Billie Holiday set.

Actually, I think that band does a great job behind him. He's simply fascinating to watch!

No kidding! Joe knows Jack so well. . . has such a resource of Teagarden material. . . the film documentary he produced is DA SHIT. . . . I'll be all over this book.

They are reproduced on cd in their entirety on "Louis Armstrong in Scandinavia Volume One" on Storyille. The three volumes in this series so far are awesome! I know of only one full video appearance of these: Yazoo's "At the Jazz Band Ball" which is a great hour of early jazz film.
