  1. I agree about the availability but you never know what additionally may be found and sonic improvements are always possible and welcome by my system.
  2. Wishing you the best right back at you page. ALL the best. Stay healthy and safe!
  3. Another hurdle I believe would be that the bulk of the Riverside would probably never appear outside of Concord Releases and I really doubt Concord would consider it (and if so it would likely be vinyl only via Craft Records).
  4. "The Complete Capitol Recordings of Woody Herman" Mosaic Records CD 1 This is sounding great today. That Capitol sound!
  5. It's a neat set. I wasn't crazy about '76 before but really like these shows. In part I think the reason is that the Betty boards are excellent sonically in comparison to many other tapings, and the Plangent Process really gets the sound locked in and seemingly just one layer more "real." I'm not a huge fan of Jerry with the Travis Bean guitar (Alligator or Wolf gave him a wider sonic palette to explore) but it does blend better with Weir's then sound than others do. Really enjoying this set, just made it all the way through. Some really cool "Dancing' in the Streets" and "Samson and Delilah" and even the Kingfish tunes are done with passion--this "comeback" seems to have the band with some energy and enthusiasm.
  6. It's sad. I can't claim to be a fan but it's disheartening to see so many pass from this virus, celebrted and uncelebrated, earlier than they would. So many more to come too I'm afraid. RIP John.
  7. Ike Quebec "Blue & Sentimental" Blue Note/Analogue Productions SACD This is one of my favorite Blue Notes and a great traditional/modern bridging work that keeps rewarding me with joy and insight spin after spin
  8. Agreed. I'm not worry free, believe me. I worry for my mother-in-law as well who is at home, 90 years old, just back from the hospital from a heart issue, tended by one of my wife's sisters who is a "the earth is only 5000 year's old and there's no climate change and I think the virus may still be an overblown media hoax you know" person who is I fear not taking the "stay at home" matter seriously. It's a scary time. Hope your Mom remains okay.
  9. So far I think it's a good thing my Dad is in an assisted-living place. I can't see him, and it's almost as if he's in prison in important ways, but there has not been a single COVID-19 case due to the stringent and thoughtful measures our governor has put in place and that is not the case in the town he moved from nearly five years ago. . . .
  10. I've had a lap dog a bit under the weather the last few days and so haven't had a lot of room for my laptop to post what I'm listening to. Today she's feeling a bit better and I have a bit more room. Listened to "Capuchin Swing" by Jackie McLean, the Blue Note title on SACD from Analogue Productions. The title song is about as close to "Star Eyes" as you can get I guess and still be another tune! Then I switched gears and listened to the sceond disc of the third show in the June 1976 box set new from Grateful Dead. I switched gears to the Mosaic Set of "The Complete Woody Herman Decca, Mars and MGM Studio Sessions 1943-1954" disc 2 It occurred to me that Woody Herman would fit right in vocally with the Dead. . . . Now, Keith Jarrett and Charlie Haden's duo cd "Jasmine"
  11. You can buy the entire album on MP3 though via amazon. (Not that I did).

    Bob Dylan corner

I feel totally the opposite! Nashville Skyline does very little for me.
  13. Gosh I was just listening to a cd with him on it today. Sad news

    Bob Dylan corner

Over time I've come to appreciate all Dylan, and to like later Dylan more than the earliest. Self Portrait was the first album of his I bought, and then I bought Vol. 2 of Greatest Hits and liked the tracks with Traum best.
  15. Best title of an LP ever. Marty Grosz "Songs I Learned at my Mother's Knee and other Low Joints"
  16. "The Thelonious Monk Memorial Album" 2 LP set Milestone Records, LP 1
  17. "The Dixie Sound of Jack Teagarden" Roulette stereo LP. I like this so much that I'd like to have a mono copy. My stereo is a little noisy but once the music kicks in who cares!
  18. Ha! I guess I could at least listen to Carmen McRae sing Jimmy Rowles' song "The Ballad of Thelonious Monk." Right now Something completely different but happily so. Victor Assis Brasil, "Esperanto/Toca Antonio Carlos Jobim." Two very interesting albums from '70.
  19. I know I have this in my collection but just can't seem to find it. . . .
  20. The last two days I've been listening to SACDs I bought from Acoustic Sound's sale of Analogue Productions. Listened to these Blue Note titles: Joe Henderson "Page One" Big John Patton "Along Came John" Jackie McLean "Cappucin Swing" (I've never heard a better digital version of this title) Sonny Rollins "Vol. 2" And these Verve titles: Johnny Hodges "With Billy Strayhorn and Orchestra" West Montgomery with the Wynton Kelly Trio "Smoking' at the Half Note" Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges "Back to Back" Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges "Side by Side" These Verve titles sound so f'in good that it sent me on a side trip of messing around with isolation to further refine the system sound. Other than Classic Records gold cds these are among the best mastered jazz discs I've ever heard. Now moving to one of the two RCA Living Stereo titles I bought: Jean Morel/Paris Conservatory Orchestra "Albeniz: Iberia/Ravel: Rapodie Espagnole" disc 1 Iberia is sounding fantastic.
  21. "Thinking of Home" has become a real favorite of mine this century. The sense of saudade is there and the performances are really tied strongly to the material and its moods.
  22. I have it. I like it. . . have to revisit it again soon, though that may mean an archaeological dig into my storage unit and won't happen soon. Sound is not stellar but decent enough.
  23. As far as I know Harold is fine. He has retired. His lovely wife passed away some years back and I know how hard that is. I think he's less active online. . . he does make an appearance now and then on Facebook. He occasionally plays out in the NYC/NJ area on bass.
