  1. Vol. 2 is also same price.
  2. A review from a Swedish member of the Hoffman forum below. Indeed it is [a good book]. I'm just about an hour in to it, but as a jazz fan in general and BN fan in particular, this is a must have. It's big, heavy and has that thick paper quality that at least I really enjoy. Almost 400 pages with forewords by Wayne Shorter, Robert Glasper and Don Was. Lots and lots of pictures, words about the time, about the jazz environment, clubs, sessions, people and covers. What I really like so far is that it sheds some light over the 30s and 40s jazz which has been a blind spot for me. For me, this is a book to accompany the music I live with every day. It's a book that's needed in a time of downloads, clubs going out of business and where I have to travel all over Europe in search of second hand music to buy... For me it's invaluable to have 400 pages that I can use to just disappear in for a while. To forget about lifes obligations and enjoy the music. I think Shorters words about Lion & Wolff creating Blue Note Records says it all;...'By capturing authentic musical expression in a place of freedom, a place where music, art and poetry could freely florish, they demonstrated the true meaning of democracy.' Now, I need to get back to reading and listening!
  3. I shouldn't have, but I squeezed in before the end.

Revisiting this one several times today. Really a nice listen--and a really nice recording that sounds so nice on my system.
  5. Then really hip people would say they downloaded it from the 'net. I'm glad they did it. I still am finding it an intriguing listen.
  6. I've started reading my copy (ordered fron the publisher and received a week ago) and have ordered another for a friend of Joe's, my friend too, as an early Xmas present. Quite a nicely published/printed book!
  7. Hope it's a great one and many many more!
  8. Many more happy happy ones!
  9. Many many happy returns!
  10. Looks as if it's a European Impulse reissue. I would doubt you'd get a CDR. http://www.amazon.de/Thembi-Impulse-Sessions-Pharoah-Sanders/dp/B000024Y5J
  11. Arrow, Season 2 on Blu. Soon will start Vikings Season 2 on Blu.

    Love the Ditko-esque cover.
  13. In post #5 by Mr. Milazzo.
  14. Word.
  15. No, there's a Japanese RVG edition. It's very good imo. TOCJ-7200. I've listened to the Unity release. Sound is quite good. The alternates . . . as I remember them they're not as essential for me as others seem to think they are but then I'm not a HUGE fan of Unity.

That is one of the Nash I have. Excellent stuff.
  17. I admit Kind of Blue has really grown on me too over the years. Thinking of what these cats did in the studio with the material they were given. . . this is a magnificent exploration that seems so polished and perfected when there was so little time to do so. Boggling in a way. And some excellent solos, and the engineering captured it so well. (Plus, as a drummer or former drummer, what Cobb does on this record intrigues me every time, just the right amount of support and propulsion and with his intrinsic grace and essential motions). That is what makes the "Blue" such an interesting listening. This is not invention, this is re-creation and a studied one. The engineering is different. The whole experience is different. For at least a bit more spins I think I'll find a fascination in the comparison. Glad I bought it and didn't just dismiss the idea and product.
  18. Spun Supernova. Very nice. Though I'll state that I prefer the RVG by a bit, it's meatier which helps this session.
  19. No, we got as far as post 15. Which is a major oversight. I have at least half if not more of what Gullin recorded, he was a master. Staying continental, Barney Wilen played a beautiful baritone. My favorite solos of his on that instrument are on the New York Romance and Talisman releases.
  20. Here are some Caceres examples; https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQlPRFRPhkJIOzzO-AY4qu_BsP4UhHh3e
  21. Two words: Ernie Caceres. Two additional words: Chicago style.
  22. I'm not with my books but I'm pretty sure that's how it is. . . the cover had the track listing wrong, and the track sequence was always the same.
  23. The running order was always the same, the two tracks were misprinted as far as sequence on the original covers, stereo and mono. So this is in fact an accurate reproduction of the original.
  24. That's the way the original release was, is that not so?
