Thanks for the link. I paid more for my '59 Reissue Jazzmaster than he did for his '59!

I wasn't taking anything personally, that statement is total BS. It doesn't matter what Keith's personal opinion may have been about the instruments (and I don't totally believe what he says)--he delivered as effectively as Chick (maybe even more so as far as tonal varieties and funk groove). "Doesn't have a clue what he's doing?" That's just utter BS, or to put it your way an opinion that in my opinon is either just hyperbole or uninformed. Sorry.

The new box set is very nice imo. The pre-order price from European amazons was a bargain!

John said: Black Beauty demanded that type of playing. Funny you should compare that to Jarrett's role in Miles' band. If you listen to Keith, he was only there because he looked up to Miles, hated playing the electric instruments and basically didn't have a clue as to what he was doing. So what you're hearing as complementing was actually cluelessness. I totally disagree about Jarrett with Miles. Despite what he said, he played brilliantly and to say he didn't have a clue is total bullshit. Both Chick and Keith, individually and collectively, contributed greatly to the Miles Davis music of those years. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I really like Chick's work up through the ECM years and then. . . well. . . I really heard nothing that I felt I had to own until the Origin studio and live material came out. Just a personal thing, as Starthrower mentions how many Corea albums does one need? Not many in my case. It's not like other artists where I want to have all I can of their work, I'm much choosier about his work and really like his most traditional fare the best.

According to your level of interest in Jimi remnants, there's lots still left in the vaults to enjoy as Quincy points out. I have lots of boots that contain material still not put out by the family. One I'd love to see (and never will) is over ninety minutes of work on . . . "I'm a Man." Fascinating to hear successions of takes. Looking forward to this one!

That's odd because I personally think cats are very intelligent, and I have had loyal and domestic cats that are the best companions I can imagine. I haven't had oe for five years as I had two die on me of old old age, the last six months after my wife passed, and I just can't bear the loss any longer. But maybe one day. . . . I wouldn't have a dog but I know that if I ever marry my gal. . . I will because she loves them.

Many many happy returns Jon!

Worlds Records going out of business sale
jazzbo replied to TheMusicalMarine's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Their free shipping for purchases over 35 dollars made their pricing better, and I liked supporting them. I believe they used to be the home of a distributor and I think (as they are still selling some new releases) that they are just closing their storefront. Anyway, I'll be missing them. -
Interesting to see what hapens if they really try to revive most of the 765 items, and possibly a good opportunity to act fast and grab the ones you missed the first time around and realize NOw that yu want them. BUT - any word on where they will be available except from Worlds Records? Because it does sound odd to start such an ambitious project if you are all set on closing down. And it might not the that worthwhile cost-wise for non-US buyers to have to order them from the US. Worlds Records was a distributor of many European labels. I think it's possible they are closing down their storefront but still distributing.

I'm a cat person, but I like dogs. Don't need a lot of doggie kisses though.

I'm moving to Bay Village, Ohio, about .75 miles from my parents' house. It's time to be there to help them and spend time wtih them. 32 years in Austin are ending soon.

A random personal observation. I'm in Austin for about 7 weeks more.

Moving across the country is an expensive pain in the ass.

This inexpensive (17 dollars) 3 cd overview of the Adventure Music label is chock full of interesting tunes. Da Bastids say: A loving look at the Adventure Music label – served up in a 3CD set that offers a heck of a lot of great music for a very low price, all hand-picked by the lovely Monday Michiru! Adventure's been one of the best sources for Brazilian music and acoustic sounds for the past decade – a label with a really strong dedication to a few sorts of styles – like some of the best mixes of jazz, bossa, and choro modes recorded in Brazil – or the wonderful post-folk acoustic underground that's risen up in the US. The package really spans the full scope of the label's music – and offers up a whopping 44 tracks in all – all to introduce you to their efforts. Our hat's off to Monday for the track selection – and the package features work by Hamilton De Holanda, Ricardo Silveira, Daniel Santiago, Muiza Adnet, Mike Marshall, Jovino Santos Neto, Moacir Santos, Antonio Arnedo, Maria Marquez, Clarice Assad, Tom Lellis, Eva Scow, Gui Mallon, Toninho Horta, Florencia Ruiz, Alex Hargreaves, Philippe Baden Powell, and others! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Last week's was pretty good as well. I think they're going to go out with a bang.

What does the fact that the T-shirt comes in extra large tell us, I wonder? It tells us that they're doing what all these "t-shirt" bundles do: offer only XL size. Which works for me, I like 'em loose.

Well, that's far more accurate than what I said before. He does come through much better through my system than he does through my TV, I did check that out. You're right, he's sort of buried in the mix at times, but most of the time I can hear him. Some phenomenal bass playing on that disc! (On all four discs).
