  2. I'm aware Kevin. We're lucky that between the US and Europe and Japan nearly the entire label made it to cd in the last three decades.
  3. Hey maybe Jim IS a typical customer. That's how I see it too, though I confess I'll buy them as put out.
  4. You're taking about "Wayfaring Stranger" I presume. This is a good reissue. Part of this album was reissued by Blue Note some time back on their Steig albums compilation cd. I like Steig and I would suggest getting the Enja duo with Eddie Gomez "Outlaws," and the Japanese reissue cd "This is Jeremy Steig" that came out last year. When Cuscuna was over the BN reissue program, he had this practice of not pushing to put out albums that didn't sell well at the time of release as he believed that meant they wouldn't sell well as a cd reissue. He broke this practice often enough for artists he was personally very interested in the work of, and for some artists that are better known now than they were then and whose cds were selling. But this and many others just sat in the can.
  5. Received my set yesterday. Nice set. . . not cheap, but great sound and performances, nice packaging.
  6. I have my stereo and my TV/Blu-ray/DVD all integrated and sounding great. It's hard to leave the house. . . .
  7. Can't tell you yet, haven't received mine. But I would guess. .. in a way, though I believe the approach to the material itself may be different.

  9. No, it's Blu-Spec cd from Japan, very expensive stuff.
  10. Have a great day Joe, and many many happy happy returns!
  11. Many many happy returns!
  12. I have my Blu-ray player feeding a DAC and then into my preamp. . . Dave Holland comes through very well, quite balanced sound.
  13. Mike, though I really enjoy "Remembering Weather Report," it does not directly emulate the sound or style of that band's Vitous period. It's mellower overall and what is similar is an approach to collective interplay.
  14. Victor, keep 'em coming and enjoy your special day!
  15. "Suits" from last night. I admit again I watch this mostly for the beautiful brunettes. . . Gina Torees, Meghan Markle. . . back again, Abigail Spencer.
  16. Many happy happy returns!
  17. Got my Van Cliburn box in today. Nice set!
  18. Yes, he did all nine. I'm a classical music neophyte but all my life I've heard Beethoven because he's my father's musical inspiration and I caught the bug. I love these piano transcriptions.
  19. Don't really know how to explain it other than the Japanese cd sounds "slower" to me, there's more body to the sound, which on some systems can sound better or "prettier" but to me the clarity of the new version wins out, and I don't think that it makes the bass and drums sound "thin" at all, just gives a clear picture of them without extra reverb reflections.
  20. The Liszt I play most often is only partly Liszt: the Beethoven Smyphonies transcribed for piano. Brilliant stuff. I have the Leslie Howard performances.
  21. I think reverb was added in the mastering of the Japanese cd. And it muddies things up for me, and makes bass and drums sound thicker, slower, maybe "pretiier," but not "prettier" to me on my system. The new one is a definite upgrade for me.
  22. There's no question Evans could play the blues. The blues is not the bedrock of his style as it is in the style of many other pianists we love. Every year that passes I appreciate Evans more and more. Putting on one of his albums can transport me to another dimension in the way that those of a handful of other artists can, there are select artists that can take me to their own musical universe.
  23. I agree. The small group sides and solo sides are hot as well. Great sound.
