I haven't spun this lp in a long time. I like Jaco better on this than with Weather Report or his own band. Some great songs here, one of Joni's very best.

I guess the closest I've come to one of my real favorites was receiving a letter in response to mine from Philip K. Dick. I sent him a letter in late '81 about how I had first found a book by him in 1967 at Gianopolis Bookstore in Addis Ababa (The Zap Gun) and then tracked down every novel I could find, not an easy task in those years when so many were out of print. I explained to him how his books had influenced my thinking and my life. A few months later I was shocked to receive a letter from him, talking about his upcoming trip to Paris, smog, his cats, and his girlfriend, talking about how excited he was that his (final) novel was being published, how excited he was about the making of Blade Runner, and how getting letters like mine was a real highlight of his days, knowing he had reached someone. Several months later, he had his fatal stroke. In the world of my musical favorites I was priviledged to meet and talk to Joe Lovano and Sam Rivers. Oh and Jim Sangrey, who fits right in there as great musician, I'm a fan.

An IAJRC lp that reissues rare V-Disc sides. There's a great track by jack Tegaarden and Billy Strayhorn on here that I don't remember ever knowning about (Take the A Train).

I prefer the Schaap by a hair as well, more resolved, more detailed to my ear. I don't really hear harshness, I've managed to evade it somehow fine tuning my system.

What they say. I haven't sold comics in years but hear that it's a disappointing thing these days. When I last sold it was to a dealer, didn't feel stung too badly.

Interesting. I didn't notice that dropout, and I don't listen on headphones. I've been quite impressed with the sound of these remastered sets and when I can compare them to an earlier cd I'm happy to have the new one. . . . Welcome!

I worked there 12 years or so, 9 of which I was able to bring in a stereo and play music. We moved after my first three years to a new location where that was possible.

I actually thought the best bit of jazz on tv lately was The Good Wife using a Fats Waller tune ("It's A Sin to Tell A Lie") n the 11/25 episode.

It's already in English. To add a bit more detail: I worked in a state agency-run "store" where small agencies could purchase office supplies at "contract" prices that our agency set for all state purchases; I was responsible for the sales floor and front counter. I was allowed to have a stereo system there and play music all day for customers and staff.

I saw it. . . just didn't thnk it was that funny. The funniest two comments I've found made about music I play (I worked for about twelve years in a setting where I provided music via my cds and tapes for the whole "store" for about nine years) was: "What cartoon was that music in?" (playing 'twenties Ellington) "I'm a music lover too. I like both kinds of music: country AND western."

Reviewers seem to believe that the music serves as an homage to the adventurous spirit of Bird and his music, which I can see. I haven't seen anything from Lewis himself with an explanation, but it may be out there.

I agree with Jon (and Allen and Freelancer): worth picking up both for Green and besides Green.

Rich, glorious mono! Agreed, I just happened on Miles Davis at Fillmore right after Bitches Brew when I returned from Swaziland in '71 and it fascinated the living daylights out of me, this music is part of my inner musical language. Just love the chaotic moments, the beautiful moments, it's all very exciting. I love the whole outuput from the start of the electric peiriod to '75, but this one, Filles and Bitches Brew are my most often played.
