  1. And Larry, I agree, the sound of Bix on these remasters really makes his impact and individuality more decipherable and moving. And. . .I confess I like the Whiteman stuff far more than I dislike it!
  2. I've been enjoying the four volumes of this set for years, and rushed out to get Volume 5 when it was released, and it's a hoot. Yes, this is my favorite remastering of this material at least so far, and for all the same reasons you cite Larry. Here is some earlier discussion: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=3955
  3. It wasn't James I was thinking of. . . .
  4. Wow, great day to have birthdays! Many more happy happy ones!
  5. Due to circumstances, my iPod, with or without my Monitor Audio iDeck.
  6. Sonny Stitt, disc 2 So good to have a day off!
  7. Mastered by Todd Whitelock, Universal Mastering Studios, East
  8. so what are the reservations about this set? JB sorry, I hadn't read the rest of the threat. but how is this really the best sound quality till now? JB John, everyone has a different idea of what "the best sound quality" is. I will say that these sound very very good. I put them up there with the K2 Digital Impulse cds from Japan as my favorite sounding versions. There are many reasons why these may sound so good. Better source tapes. . . more careful engineering of the remastering process. . . improved mastering equipment. . . .Whatever the reasons, it seems to me that great care was taken to get a great sounding result and it has paid off.
  9. Many many more happy happy two-wheeled miles!
  10. Allan, I think the Mercury box went for about 110 dollars, and yes, I think it is likely as you describe. Here is a detail of the Okeh box: http://www.amazon.com/Okeh-Rhythm-Blues-St...7/dp/B00000287T
  11. Got my copy of Some Blues But Not the Kind That's Blue yesterday in the mail. Awesome! Four additional tracks, and this one is mastered from the master tapes. (Last one was from an lp). Yay Atavistic and keep them coming!
  12. Right now it's back in stock at Dusty.
  13. I received this set a week or so ago from amazon.fr I must say I'm really enjoying this. The book(let) is beautiful. The sound on these discs is wonderful. There's something interesting about having each session on a disc. I'm a happy camper; this has always been among my favorite music by Chet, and to have it showcased so with such majesty is pleasing.
  14. Really tough, sorry to hear about this. In a way I know how you feel, from several aspects of my life, and I can assure you that slowly slowly things get better.
  15. TWO! I value both of you guys and wish you would reconsider and stay. Please!
  16. Many many more happy happy ones!
  17. Yes, a surprising good deal . . . too bad I'm neither using or considering either new format.
  18. I spit on metaphysics! Okay, fair enough. I don't see it that way, but maybe I will one day.
  19. I used to belong fully to this camp. I've really waffled the last four years or so though. I started to really listen to a lot of his fifties accompaniment. . . and saw how apropos he was in most of those sessions. And I began to listen to a lot of the trio sides (Songbooks, London House, etc.) and. . . enjoy the heck out of them for what they were. What a career!
  20. You're right, no one probably ever intended to make the novel, too difficult in so many ways. If it's not sci fi noir, then what is it? (Not being contankerous, just wouldn't know what else it might be. . . open to suggestion).
  21. DJ, you are right, I can hear that tune right now in my head. . .!
  22. I've been listening to the two hybrid SACD "Deluxe Edition" of Tommy. Those SACDs sound fantastic!
  23. Pre-ordered both. Couldn't resist!
  24. Good point Mr. Lunky!
