  1. No cds, but a big check pushed me over the edge into getting a new tv, a 32" Sony LCD.
  2. I agree, great music. Right now the Transparency Sun Ra Detroit box again. Lots and lots of percussion right now. . . which is . . . okay.
  3. Horace Parlan. . . Stan and Tommy!
  4. 7/4 and I are worth the same!
  5. Yes, I think you'd enjoy most of them. Definitely likely to enjoy "We Want Miles," "Star People" and "Decoy."
  6. He totally rocks . . .no swings. . . well he was amazing.
  7. The two Evans became a Connoisseur. The Carmichael came out again I believe (but sank like a stone leaving no ripple). I didn't know the Hill, Gonzales and Newton were part of the series.
  8. All I've got in my yard are leaves and pecans my neighbors wish I would rake up!
  9. I got my copy and I watched the US theatrical version (which I have seen in the theater when first released, and I think that's it). Picture and sound are fabulous!
  10. In my third decade of listening to jazz music I turned to singers. I'd listened with attention only to Billie, Louis and Tea, Triple Threat and Fats before I began to delve deeper. I mostly like the ladies. . . Una Mae. . . June. . .Dinah. . .Peggy. . . Haddah. . . .No surprise I guess! But I do like jazz singing. A lot.
  11. Apparently he wasn't paying attention to Joni lyrics when he recorded with her previously ("Mingus," etc.(?))
  12. Ha! Good one.
  13. Gosh Chris, I can see a resemblance!
  14. Hi James. Glad it arrived, and that you're enjoying it so far! I have a feeling you'll like it even more as it "breaks in." (I really believe that electronic components of this nature do that). I've a Monitor Audio "i-deck" (the first version with the separate speakers, so a three piece, not one piece set) and I really enjoy its sound. This is likely even better sounding and as such you'll get quite a lot of enjoyment out of it. Audio Advisor is now selling Audioquest connectors for a cd player into this sort of unit at quite a reduced price that are quite nice-sounding cables and will give you a sonic boost over the garden variety connector for a cd player to the unit. . . .You might want to hint that this would make a nice Xmas gift. http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=AQMINI1PV
  15. Thanks for weighing in with impressions; I've had this box set preordered since the late summer. I read a book about films based on PKD work that went into detail about the making of Blade Runner, and referrenced the documentary, and when I looked around to see about the documentary, I ran into information about the box set. I also have a book about the making of Blade Runner that I have been saving to read (though I've browsed through it pretty heavily) that uses a lot of information that will appear in the documentary. Can't wait for my set to arrive!
  16. I assume you're talking about "Blue Rose"? Nice album. Strayhorn arranged and sort of masterminded musically.
  17. Wish I were having this much fun!
  18. I guess I should find it in my holdings and spin it. . . it is nearly Xmas. I just. . . really don't spin Xmas music. This one is a good one though, enjoyed it last season.
  19. It's okay stuff, but nothing that gets me really going. Ah well, different strokes for different folks. I've got a few McNeely albums around. . . More into smaller ensemble stuff of late. That's why the Matthews isn't clicking. It will one day. The sort of general "vibe" to the arrangements is getting in my way.

  21. "Enjoying" may not be the best word. . . Onzy Matthews. . . this one is not sending me into orbit.
  22. Philip K. Dick "Lies, Inc." (The Vintage American version of "Lies, Inc." which differs slightly from the Gollanz edition).
  23. Nah, they just haven't completely cooled and decomposed yet. . . . Okay, you got me. And that darned "Verve Original" series. Still keeps putting out stuff already put out.
