  1. He actually has a MySpace page though, with a great quote from the man himself; "Virtually every innovation in electronic music was made by me...an awesome statement, but true." It's stuff like this that first piqued my interest in him. And the fact that the guitarist he seemed to favour on most of his recordings was called Joe Cinderella.
  2. Thanks guys, sounds like I'll have to check him out. Is he comparable to anyone in particular or any style in particular, I can't seem to find sound clips anywhere. Sorry just found clips on AMG. Edit for AMG revelation.
  3. As this topic is on the subject of Gil Melle's Prestige recordings I may as well post the question here, does anyone have this or the recordings that it contains? According to AMG it's compiled from the albums Melle Plays Primitive Modern, Quadrama, Gil's Guests, and three extra cuts from an unfinished LP. What's it like as I have no Melle but I am very curious as he sounds like such a cool guy.
  4. Hey, I wouldn't let that stop you, it's never stopped Allen Lowe.
  5. Oh Allen, where do you find the time to be sooooooooo funny, what with the projects and all. You really are the living end.
  6. Interesting, but if those hilarious PMs you keep sending me are anything to go by, there's really very little to get to grips with. They're very academic, or maybe just pseudo-academic. Good luck with the project, you'll need it.
  7. No I was talking about Wynton Marsalis, you know the guy that called you an academic, and its only 8 o'clock here so I won't be going to bed for a while.
  8. I wasn't calling you the son-of-god, the Jesus was for me, I was calling you an academic, me and Wynton were just talking about it.
  9. Jesus, you don't have to be such an academic about it.
  10. I think that the saddest and most upseting aspect of this whole sorry "episode" is that, as it happened to Allen Lowe, this Board will never hear the fucking end of it.
  11. Hi Larry, I was going to just send you a PM on this but I thought I'd post my question as well, although I don't have your book, I have your liner notes to the Tristano, Konitz & Marsh Mosaic where you mention an unpublished 1973 interview with Warne Marsh by Terry Martin and John Litweiler. Is this interview available anywhere or would you know someone who would have either a hard or soft copy of it? Or does anyone else out there know anything about this interview? I was intrigued by Marsh's comment, "Lee would like to have Art's (Pepper) time", were there any other minor revelations like that in the interview? Cheers in advance...
  12. Spooky.
  13. B. Goren, I have gone through the first two discs and was very impressed. Like Bev, I got it mainly for Louis Stewart but I had not heard any Shearing before and after listening to this I don't know why people would be "anti" Shearing. It really is a trio in the classic sense and everyone gets their share of solo space, its not all Shearing, in fact Louis Stewart seems to start off alot of the tunes. I know its a MPS edition and all that but I don't think I've ever heard a guitar sound as nice before.
  14. Some nice Barney, St. Thomas
  15. Another good one, the neck looks like a banjo neck in his hands. Tal Farlow - Autumn Leaves - Live 1978
  16. Nice Tal Farlow clip, "Misty" performed by Tal Farlow He's playing the prototype of his sig. model.
  17. I picked this set up yesterday, I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but will gladly post a report if you guys are still interested.
  18. Cheers, might just have to make it a priority then.
  19. Ditto on the Blue Notes, I have these two and they are excellent;
  20. Are there any Tatum fans out there that have this 3cd set? I have seen it second hand and reckon it might be a good place to start with him, seems to be all his early stuff.
  21. I am quite curious about these Perkins releases, any opinions on the other two? I'm also interested in the Marsh release? Any info. would be appreciated. Cheers. Anybody out there???
  22. So for all you living dead out there....... Space Guitar.
