  1. I can't speak to the Zune, but there are ways to repurpose old iPods and make them still useful. For example, my alarm clock has an older iPod connection. I use the TuneIn Radio app on that iPod, and am able to wake up to any radio station without static. Somebody said that the Windows Media Player would work with the Zune, but I couldn't get it to recognize the device. It does have WiFi capability, but no Apps.
  2. I also have a late-model Zune, which is actually quite good and not bad looking. Unfortunately, it was discontinued a year or two ago and they stopped upgrading and supporting the software - and doesn't work in Windows 8. So, even though the player still works great, I can't upload tunes to it - making it useless in the future.
  3. I recently bought an iPod Nano. I don't know if that model's been discontinued. I like having a stand-alone music player because it doesn't fill up my phone's memory or use up it's battery life. Also, it's only about as big as a stick of gum and holds 1000s of tunes as well as an FM radio.
  4. SFJAZZ Brian Blade Fellowship, 9/18 The Cookers, 9/26
  5. The Carmell Jones Mosaic Select has a couple of nice Gerald Wilson dates on it, too.
  6. Here are a couple of tasty, well-crafted videos of Syd Arthur. A band worth checking out.
  7. Not unexpected considering his advanced age, but still a sad day. The Mosaic box is an indispensable part of my collection, and definitely one of my favorites. Unfortunately I only saw him once - at Yoshi's several years ago as part of Kenny Burrell's 75th birthday celebration. Fortunately, it was recorded by BN, so I'll always have that memory.
  8. Tonight: The Baseball Project (Scott McCaughey, Steve Wynn, Linda Pitmon & Mike Mills) Always entertaining!
  9. Surprised to see Aquarius Records the only US shop listed. It's been here in SF for a long while, but is small and very specialized. What about Amoeba or Waterloo or ...?
  10. I second the Steeplechase/Inner City catalog. I've never heard one that I didn't like.
  11. Going to see Mission of Burma on Friday. After all these years, this will be the first time I've seen them. They don't tour much, and RARELY come to the West Coast. A band with a unique sound, for SURE!
  12. This has turned into one of my fav Mosaics. It was a 'sleeper,' for sure.
  13. Helps to explain the auction of his artwork a couple of months ago.

    Jimi Hendrix

I hate to say it, but I was thinking the same thing.

Seems odd that they would re-issue "Cry of Love" since pretty much all of it (maybe ALL of it?) has been released on "Voodoo Soup" and/or "First Rays of the New Rising Sun".

I figured you would have it, Lon. One of the pieces I read had several snippets, which were very insightful - more about life than music, actually.

Starting At Zero: His Own Story I know it's been out since last year, but I just read some stuff about it. Sounds pretty interesting. Anybody else read it yet?
  18. Eric Ambler - "A Coffin for Dimitrios"
  19. I don't have the Quincy box, but I have a couple of the albums. Pretty good stuff. Anyone have the Crusaders box? I've listened to the clips and really like "The Young Rabbits", but "Freedom Sound" doesn't do a lot for me. Is this set more like one or the other?
  20. I saw Renee a couple of times with the SFJAZZ Collective, and then once with her own group at the V.V. Definitely a talent deserving wider recognition.
  21. I have some of that stuff (Open Air Suit, X-75) on vinyl, but unfortunately my LPs are packed away.
