  1. RIP, Eddie. He drummed for nearly every touring artist I saw at the Keystone Korner in the 70s. Very sorry to see him pass on.
  2. Giants.........stick a fork in 'em. Oh, well, it was nice while it lasted.
  3. Watching those videos, it seems as though our friend, Mr. Wilson, has some "issues" he's trying to work through.
  4. Got tix to see him in Oct w/José James vocals, Chris Potter tenor saxophone, Gerald Cannon bass, Joe Farnsworth drums. They're "revisiting" the Coltrane/Hartman album.
  5. Ha! I never noticed that.
  6. New Blu-ray edition
  7. I like that Adorama portfolio site. Very cool. So are you shooting actual film? I'm not aware of any Voigtlander digital cameras. That'a very gutsy, considering the current technology.
  8. Is anyone from the original Yardbirds left other than the bassist and drummer? The current lineup includes McCarty(d) and Dreja(g). They've put out a few albums recently that aren't half-bad, surprisingly enough.
  9. Going to see Dave Alvin on Saturday.
  10. How about Jazz Crusaders? BTW, should someone tell them how to spell "Regularly"? [update: looks like someone did]
  11. GUNther Schuller
  12. I think we're talking about the NY Times, aren't we?
  13. He's going to be playing here in the upcoming SF Jazz Festival Fall Season. I should probably get tix.
  14. I don't remember a "jazz" listing in the Sunday Times - it's usually lumped in with "Pop", IIRC. As kh said, it's the Friday paper that has the listings.
  15. Nice piece about what Booker is doing these days. He’s a Soulful Survivor With New Music to Make
  16. I always thought that "Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse" was a very cool and underrated album. RIP
  17. Grachan Moncur III Some Other Stuff (Rudy Van Gelder Edition), $3.29 (Amazon)
  18. FYI......the Lighthouse set is STILL $6.49 (!), so it's not a mistake.
  19. With the exception of the Hill and Hackett sets, these recordings are no longer available from Mosaic. Interestingly, the Hackett download is not a "fraction of the price", but just a few dollars cheaper. Given the lack of packaging and printed info, and the lower sound quality, I think these downloads are "reasonably" priced, and Mosaic isn't losing a dime. Bobby Hutcherson is still available, too. Good points, though.
  20. 9:15pm, 58 degrees Fog is: IN
  21. I'm still confused about these Capitol Vault sets. Are they exactly the same tracks as the Mosaics except without the great liners and (obviously) packaging? And what about Mosaic's remastering? Do these sets have that or did they just dump the original masters here? Overall, it seems unfair to Mosaic for Capitol to offer these at a fraction of the price. I obviously have no insight into the contractual arrangements for this stuff, but I feel bad for Michael & Co.
  22. Sorry guys, didn't mean to rub it in. Just wishing I could blow a little of it your way.
  23. That's a great one! "Death Walks Behind You" is one of my 'guilty pleasure DIDs'. Been a favorite since it came out.
