Justin V Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 CDs 1, 2 and 4. Particularly enjoyed the Hines and the Ram Ramirez.I'm particularly fond of the Sonny White tracks, but that is a great Mosaic set with not a single bad session. Now enjoying:Â Quote

TedR Posted November 12, 2015 Report Posted November 12, 2015 Johnny Hodges '55 - '61. Disc 6. This is so good. Val's Lament with Russ Freeman on piano may be my track of the week. Quote
mikeweil Posted November 14, 2015 Report Posted November 14, 2015  Got a copy of the Oliver Nelson Mosaic box from an esteemed board member, and do not regret it, some fabulous big band writing. What bugged me a little in the past about his charts was his high levels of energy and brassiness, but if I listen in small doses, it's fine. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted November 14, 2015 Report Posted November 14, 2015 MS-001 Mosaic Select: Grachan Moncur, Disc 3, "Hipnosis" session. As has been discussed elsewhere on this board, this Select is as much a Jackie McLean set as it is Grachan Moncur.  It's the first Select I purchased, and still one of my favorites.  Always hear something new every time I put it on.  Today, it's Billy Higgins' ride cymbal phrasing and comping (with the snares off) on "Hipnosis"... so good!!! Sandman Posted November 28, 2015 Report Posted November 28, 2015 Discs 4-6 have a great variety of post-war jazz, with some Be-Bop (Moody is great), some McIntosh-written hard bop (November afternoon is perfect for this time of year), and lots of bossa nova jazz. Quote
