Jim Dye
I just found out today that a close friend that i've known for nearly 30 years died of an asthma attack on Monday. I suspect an accidental OD since the guy was a walking pharmacy and had fallen on some pretty hard times. I'm flying home to Michigan on Thursday. I've never lost someone close to me who was my age. I think I'm having a much harder time with this than when I lost my Dad to Lung Cancer back in 1990. Maybe it's because I have my own family now. Sometimes life can just kick you right in the jimmy. Damn.

Big Deal
Hang in there man. One of my best friends died in 1984 and I still find myself missing him. But I can usually tell some humorous story from when he and I were young and that usually helps to bring a smile to my face and lets me know that he is still there with me. JohnJ
My sincere condolences Jim. I do know how you feel, one of my best friends was murdered on Christmas Day 1991 in Manila, at a Christmas party I was supposed to attend but did not as I was too hung over. That was a great shock. PHILLYQ
My condolences Jim. I lost a friend 8 years ago who was 35, and it's impossible to make any sense out of it. I try to remember the laughs and the funny stories about him.
maren
Jim, I'm so sorry. Take good care of yourself. (The first time I lost a friend my age -- she got an infection most people recover from, but she just didn't -- it was physically painful for me and I think our whole group of friends -- felt like we were beaten up.)
