Got mine from CDU today, but there's a decent-sized dent in the lower right corner. It doesn't seem to have any effect on anything, but it's a little bit of a drag.

Should I ask for a replacement, or would that be too picky? It costs over $100, after all.

Ask for a replacement. I have NEVER found cduniverse reluctant to replace or exchange anything that wasn't exactly what I wanted it to be. As a result, I give them lots of business!

Picked up mine from the brick and morter, Folk and Rock in Helsingborg yesterday, and it had been waiting for me for a few days, 699 sek, less 15% discount!-

Am I the first European here to get it? if so I claim my coconut!

According to Amazon UK, mine is now 'shipping shortly', whatever that means.. :excited:

It probably means it is boxed and labelled and sitting on a cart to be hauled to the post office.

Yeah, probably. The exact wording is 'Item Dispatching Soon' which could of course mean anything from now to infinity..

Looks like my Monk order has been taken off the list by them. Ah well, c'est la vie..

The e-mail I received says "has dispatched", not "dispatching soon".

Just got it. Nice looking package. The track "Chieftain" is the same tune that opens the In Concert at the Philharamonic Hall album.

In case this hasn't been mentioned yet, there's interviews with Pete Cosey, Michael Henderson and Dave LIebman at www.miles-davis.com/onthecorner.

a lot of the unreleased stuff sounds reminds me of the Bitches Brew box set, with more in-your-face rhythm. I've been really liking this box set more than i expected to.

I will call my store tomorrow and ask for their price ...

They want € 79,95!!! <_<

Two options: 1. ordering from amazon 2. waiting for Zweitausendeins

Considering we get our new car in a week or two, I'll rather wait some.

Am I the only one that thinks that the track "Vertebrae By Vertebrae" from Bjork's last album owes more than a great deal to the cut "Chieftain" on this set? What an odd coincidence...

edit for sausage-finger typing...

It would be great if those who have this set could describe the previously unreleased cuts.

The On the Corner stuff is great. It includes the segment used by Bill Laswell for “What If” on Panthalassa.

“Chieftain,” as I mentioned before, is the same tune that opens In Concert at Philharmonic Hall.

The “Turnaround” tracks are the same tune from the second part of “Prelude” on Agharta. Some of this music was used on Panthalassa.

“The Hen,” “Big Fun-Hollwuud,” and “Peace” are kind of dull along the “Billy Preston” lines and lack the edge the band had in its live shows.

“Mr. Foster,” recorded the day after “Calypso Frelimo” in 1973, is a good one. It sounds like “For Dave,” which closes Agharta and Pangaea and is on the latter part of Side 2 of Dark Magus. Confusingly, the more mainstream “Minnie” from 1975 is also known as “Mr. Foster.”

“Hip Skip” and “What They Do” are from 1974 and include Dominique Gaumont on guitar. The former song features Pete Cosey on drums and was performed on a few live bootlegs from this period; the latter is a great stop-start guitar-fueled rave-up not unlike the “Turnaroundphrase” finale on Dark Magus.

No complaints from me on the music, quality of the mastering or presentation of the set - all superb.

The essays could have been a bit 'meatier' I guess, although Paul Buckmaster's recollections are very interesting (Stockhausen being put on the autochanger etc).

That first page drawing of the 'devil' playing the tambourine sure had me laughing my head off though. Inspired !

Still waiting my set from Amazon.fr! They haven't shipped it yet because the 'Tresors du jazz' is delayed until November 15th. For f... sake, couldn't they dispatch the Miles set separately!

Thanks for those descriptions. I hadn't planned to get this box, but now I will.
