colinmce Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Yeah, that's why I shop jazz there-- almost always works in your favor save odd exceptions like this. They once sold a Hardee/Quebec LP Mosaic for $20, the Don Pullen Select for $30 ... That $99 Manone/Prima is also a steal. They also never know to price OOP mass market jazz CDs higher than usual so it can be a great place for stuff like that, too. I got the Complete Armstrong RCA set for $12 there. There is a Johnny Smith Mosaic DISCS ONLY at reckless.com for $40. Also some complete sets at good prices. Search 'mosaic' Their price for a USED Bird Benedetti set is preposterous at $275. The set will be in print as long as Mosaic exists. Someone there obviously doesn't know their shit. Quote

BeBop Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 I sent an e-mail to their customer service about the cancel and upcharge. The reply calmed me a bit: Thank you for your email. The item was cancelled from your order because it is sold out when your order was filled and we do not backorder CDs or DVDs. We do not warehouse CDs and DVDs as they are housed on the selling floor of our NYC store. Titles shown as in stock on our website are not necessary in stock but rather are current titles which we may still obtain from our many different distributors. We will certainly honor the lower price of the same item. Please call us to place the order and reference order number XXXXXX. We apologize for any inconvenience. We truly appreciate the time you took to write to us and hope that we have addressed your concerns. If we may be of further assistance, please call us at 1(800) 426-6027 or 718-340-0397. Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm Eastern, Saturday 9-5, or write to us again. Thank you. Just to close the loop here, J&R really came through. I re-ordered. I was too lazy to call (and out of the country), so I wasn't worried about the five bucks. But they adjusted the price and I got the original order price without lifting a finger. I'm not much of a shopper, but I'll be dropping by when I'm in New York next week. Support the good 'uns. Quote
JETman Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 They really are one of the good 'uns, but they used to be gooder up to a few years ago. Sign of the times I guess. In any case, have fun while you're there. Quote

romualdo Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 That Atlantic set looks really nice. Is the audio quality okay with the earlier tracks? I bought the vinyl when these sets came out in the mid/late 80's (7 double LP's) - fantastic music but the sound wasn't the greatest but hopefully there may have been an improvement on the CDs Quote
mjzee Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 That Atlantic set looks really nice. Is the audio quality okay with the earlier tracks? I mostly listen to my music on my iPod or computer speakers, so perhaps I'm not the best person to answer that question. I sampled some and they sounded fine. Quote

king ubu Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 The Complete Charles Mingus Columbia Album Collection, 10CD, Euros 35,88 Amazon.fr Mingus Does anyone know if that box has any new remasters compared to previously available CD reissues? Quote
jazzbo Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 I've been frustratingly waiting for my copy of this. Shipped on the same day as my Weather Report set, which I received on Monday. I think yes, there are new remasters here, especially likely for the later albums in the set. I heard from one fellow jazz collector who says these final albums sound improved. Quote
king ubu Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Okay - that might mean I'm interested then.... & Friends sounds fine to me in it's available edition but having new remasters of "Let My Chillun" and "Epitaph" might be nice indeed! Quote
Jay Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the tip on the Monk and Weather Report. Why would I want to buy the Mingus if I have the 2CD Bluebird of Tijuana and the latest remasters of Ah Um, Alt Takes and Dynasty? Is it really worth it for those last three records? I have the blue/purple border of Let My Kids. Edited August 3, 2012 by Jay Quote
jazzbo Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Probably not. It's a personal thing. Mingus is very important to my listening world, and I would like to have new re-masterings of those final albums. I also like these box sets, all the material is one place, and I like pulling out a box and listening to some discs. So it was clear to me that the box set was something I would have. Quote
kh1958 Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Except for Epitaph (one version), I have 2-5 different versions of all the material in the Mingus box set. I think I'm going to pass, absent an absurd bargain price. Quote
