jazzbo Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 (edited) I don't know. . . those I am referring to are mostly in their fifties and sixties. . . and have a few decades possibly left in their collecting. Jazz has for over fifty years been a niche audience. . . and Mosaic is firmly in the niche. I think they can continue to be among the only ones truly conscientiously mining and refining the earlier decades of jazz for some time to come. . . at least as long as the producers wish to. JSngry Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 It doesn't need to be either/or but seems like it has been. Both would suit me just fine Quote
jazzbo Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 It doesn't have to be either/or for me either. I've pre-ordered every Mosaic set for a long time. Quote

It's definitely smaller. I can see it in what's being offered for sale, locally and online. And in my world where it is arts oriented, the focus is clearly on other things, and its AI and tech oriented. My few connections left in the resale world have noticed this as well. Certain analogue items will have some value simply because a generation has not grown up with it, and have an interest, but there are a heap of cultural things that are being left alone, perhaps in part because it belongs to a time and culture that is no longer identifiable. jazzbo Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 OK I don't have the same environment or experience and I feel mine, you feel yours. Quote
Д.Д. Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 I think the Sanders Mosaic will be their best seller of the recent times. It will probably sell out before the Henderson set does. Quote

That audience will be buying their music as downloads or LPs (please let's not debate this all over again, it is what it is) and as such may not be setup to play this set. Other than that, I completely agree with JSngry, it will be in the marketing. As yet I have seen zero mention of this set anywhere but here. For instance, there's no buzz on Jazz Instagram, a pretty lively community. Mosaic's only presence on that platform is a Mosaic Images feed which is 2 years dormant which says a lot for their marketing choices. Maybe Mosaic have worked out that there's enough potential even within their usual marketing scope. How are things marketed today? There are few magazines, and a generation is mostly geared towards finding things out through the electronic grapevine - YouTube and such. Quote
JSngry Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 Does Mosaic have a YouTube channel? Or get that Jazz Video Guy guy to help out. Quote
pglbook Posted July 16 Report Posted July 16 Any idea when Mosaic might start shipping this? It should be soon as I believe Mosaic said mid-July, iirc. I look forward to getting it! Quote

Gheorghe Posted July 19 Report Posted July 19 Pharoah Sanders is my very very very favourite in music. Maybe.....Sanders, Sun Ra, Monk that´s what´s really my favourites if I had to choose three...... Quote
pglbook Posted July 21 Report Posted July 21 (edited) Today's Mosaic e-mail stated that pre-orders will ship later in the week of July 27. It was supposed to ship this week but Mosaic said the delay was due to a printing error in the booklet and the booklet had to be reprinted. Edited July 21 by pglbook Quote

So have I, but I took a very long time before I preordered this one--the very last day of the sale, as it happens. I hope it doesn't end up in the "got it to have it but don't listen to it much" pile! Quote
