felser Posted October 2 Report Posted October 2 Music Inc. & Big Band, Cecil McBee- Mutima, Heath Brothers - Marchin' On, Descendants of Mike & Phoebe. Just got notice of these from Bandcamp, and confirmed on Mack Avenue site. Will fill in details as I can find them out. I'm really surprised these are slipping out so quietly, given the massive buildup to the spring releases, but thankful the program is continuing. The Tolliver Music Inc. album is a gem, and the recording that launched Strata-East IIRC. Smilin' Billy Suite, the second side of the Heath Bros, album, is awesome.l Quote
mikeweil Posted October 2 Report Posted October 2 If the Heath Brothers gets a CD reissue, I finally might get to hear that one. Quote

ghost of miles Posted October 2 Report Posted October 2 I'm in for all of them except the Tolliver, which iirc was included as part of Mosaic's Tolliver Select set. Quote

bertrand Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Why do these press releases always downplay the CD reissue as if they were embarrassed by them? Quote

colinmce Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 At this point we're very lucky to even have them at all. My assumption is that the vinyl editions subsidize them, otherwise I doubt they would even make the investment back. 2 hours ago, felser said: Vinyl $34.99 + trendy snob appeal, CD $15.99. It is kinda weird. It's the same way with the latest Miles Davis Plugged Nickel box. My best guess is that they make a lot more money off of the LP versions. Quote
Late Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago A note for consideration—I think the Tolliver sessions newly reissued in this program sound much better than what's on the Mosaic. I was surprised at the difference. I actually sold off my Mosaic Select (the big band) as a result. The sale funded quite a few Mack Avenue releases. Quote

I also have been buying the Mack Avenue CD's, even though I own the Tolliver Mosaic Selects. If enough comes out on Mack Avenue, I would also look to sell the Selects. But I don't want to move on from the Selects with just downloads to replace them. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago What about the 3rd disc in the Music Inc Big Band Select?? Can’t be without that! — unless Mack Avenue puts that out as a separate (single) CD of its own. And can someone remind me, are all(?) the bonus tracks from the 3rd disc of the Music Inc Quartet Select fully represented on the Mack Avenue discs? If not, then there’s that to consider too. Quote
