Okay - it's always good to state a source right away.

R.I.P. - one of the most reliable bassists of his generation, big tone. I bet every member has a few albums with him participating on the shelves.

Sad News!  He was a damn good bass  player. I had the good fortune to see him play live  quite a number of times.

And as Mike said, I have him on numerous CDs including a few where he is the leader.

Ray was also the co-leader on 4 or 5 trio CDs by The Drummonds  with Billy Drummond and Renee Rosnes

Although there doesn't appear to be any formal confirmation of this, he had been ill for quite a while, so it is not unexpected.

I consider myself lucky to have seen so many Jazz greats - and Ray was one of them. He was a force on the bass.

I've been meaning to pick up a few more of Ray's Arabesque CDs. I have "Vignettes" and it's really nice. I'll have to play that in his memory.

I got to hear Ray Drummond in piano duos twice, with Billy Mays in 1990 in New Orleans and with Kenny Barron at Zinno in 1997. He was also a part of the jam sessions during the IAJE 2004 with James Williams and Ben Riley, I heard them backing Francesco Cafiso.

He was also a delightful interview. RIP, Ray.
