Pim Posted yesterday at 08:37 PM Report Posted yesterday at 08:37 PM Thanks to @cayetano Frederiksberg Records, based in Brooklyn, New York, is preparing for a 50th-anniversary reissue of the Charles Tyler Ensemble's album *Voyage From Jericho*, to be released on January 23, 2026. Recorded in July 1974 at Studio Wee in New York City and originally released in 1975 by Akba Records, this historic session showcases the group led by saxophonist Charles Tyler (1941-1992) pushing boundaries with intense improvisations, a spiritual side, and raw emotion. Along with top-tier collaborators—including Arthur Blythe, Earl Cross, Ronnie Boykins, and Steve Reid—Tyler shapes a sound where the intensity of free jazz and a poignant depth, celebrating freedom and expression, coexist. This release comes with a 28-page booklet that includes previously unreleased photos, as well as detailed notes by critic, researcher, and essayist Cisco Bradley. This is such great news. Heard this one for the first time only a year ago and fell in love immediately. Such raw and pure energy. Great band as well. So good I was seriously considering saving up money to buy an original in the end. This one will do fine: apparently deluxe version and according to our own @clifford_thornton from the tapes and with consent of the Tyler estate. Looking forward to this! Quote

I have an ancient burn of this of unknown origin, but the download would both upgrade the fidelity and legitimize the ownership. If a decently priced CD appeared on the used market, I'd jump on it. Bummed that this continues the recent trend of not offering CD releases of desirable reissues. Quote

Niko Posted 43 minutes ago Report Posted 43 minutes ago yes, this one: https://www.discogs.com/release/2938487-Charles-TylerEnsemble-Voyage-From-Jericho and there is even a chance that some folks will part with their copies in the coming months when the reissue in their preferred format hits the market... got some nice BYG LPs that way recently... colinmce Posted 39 minutes ago Report Posted 39 minutes ago CadNor used to stock the CD, unfortunately they are sold out. But they do still have copies of the equally great Live In Europe album from the same period with a similar lineup: https://cadnor.com/products/charles-tyler-live-in-europe-bleuregard-1960?_pos=1&_sid=deb0b71a2&_ss=r Quote
