Andrea Posted Thursday at 11:43 PM Author Report Posted Thursday at 11:43 PM I actually prefer Orson's interviews to his movies. Quote
T.D. Posted Friday at 12:09 AM Report Posted Friday at 12:09 AM My top 2 by a long shot are the unadventurous choices of Welles and Kurosawa. 😁 Quote

gmonahan Posted Friday at 08:59 PM Report Posted Friday at 08:59 PM Del Toro, Scorsese. I've enjoyed the recent run of movies by Yorgos Lanthimos. I also think Chloe Zhao does some good work (well, except for "The Eternals." Didn't think much of that one.) Quote

Have you seen the Spanish movie "The Castle of Purity" (1971)? Quote

jlhoots Posted Saturday at 02:37 PM Report Posted Saturday at 02:37 PM I don't "get" most of Lanthimos films. Just me, I suppose. Quote

Neither one. I'll have to explore those, and I can certainly understand having a bit of difficulty with Lanthimos films. I liked "Poor Things" and "Bugonia," "The Lobster" and "Kinds of Kindness" less, but like him or not, he certainly makes interesting and original movies. Quote
JSngry Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Watching relative buttload of 1930-1932 Cagney movies on TCM streaming and have become a bit impressed by the tight effectiveness of Roy Del Ruth. If "modern" movies are multi-CD concept albums, these films are 78s, a lot gets done without wasting time. Del Ruth slumped for a while and occasionally came back, but these are some good movies. Simon8 Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Fellini, Godard, Herzog... the Coens, Aki Kaurismaki, Roy Andersson, a soft spot, for different reasons, for David Fincher's, Spike Jonze's and Alexander Payne's films as well. Quote
Andrea Posted 19 minutes ago Author Report Posted 19 minutes ago I love 50s Fellini "La Strada" is my 2nd favorite movie. Quote
