Late Posted Wednesday at 05:06 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 05:06 PM Any rumblings about Century Celebrations for Davis or Coltrane? Reissues, newly discovered recordings? Quote
medjuck Posted Wednesday at 05:27 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 05:27 PM Ravi Coltrane and Terence Blanchard are touring with a tribute concert. I was scheduled to see it last night in Santa Barbara but they were snowed in somewhere in the east. (In the '70s here.) Quote

Late Posted Thursday at 06:19 PM Author Report Posted Thursday at 06:19 PM I'm guessing the Japanese market will eventually reissue a bunch of titles. I'm hoping for an album called Kind of Blue. And another rare-ish one—Blue Train. Quote
JSngry Posted Thursday at 07:05 PM Report Posted Thursday at 07:05 PM The market must be served!!! Quote
OliverM Posted yesterday at 10:08 AM Report Posted yesterday at 10:08 AM They started by reissuing the Complete Plugged Nickel set, both in CD and vinyl, with "new liner notes and track-by-track commentary by Syd Schwartz alongside Bob Blumenthal’s original essay." Quote
paulfromcamden Posted yesterday at 10:54 AM Report Posted yesterday at 10:54 AM Slightly underwhelming 100th anniversary "Best Of John Coltrane" compilation from Craft featuring tracks from his Prestige LPs. https://craftrecordings.com/blogs/news/best-of-john-coltrane Quote
mikeweil Posted yesterday at 12:54 PM Report Posted yesterday at 12:54 PM What shall they do? Everything has been out multiple times. The best they can do is keeping the fine box sets and most important reissues available. Quote
Pim Posted yesterday at 04:45 PM Report Posted yesterday at 04:45 PM Here's me hoping Ravi has a suprise for us.... Quote

As a record fan it would be nice to have affordable vinyl reissues of some of the posthumous Impulse albums - Stellar Regions, Living Space, Olatunji, Offering etc. Though I appreciate these may not be strong commercial propositions and not a good starting point if labels are hoping to attract new listeners. JSngry Posted yesterday at 06:01 PM Report Posted yesterday at 06:01 PM I'd still like a Bootleg Series release from the so_called Electric Jungle period. Quote

B. Clugston Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago l would love to see a 1975 Miles Davis Japan tour box and the rest of the Coltrane Half Note stuff ("Creation"!). Would be nice to get the Olatunji concert on vinyl, too. We're more likely to get Miles 1987 live and The Gentle Side of John Coltrane remastered by an audiophile dudebro. Quote

I believe it would be: John Coltrane • At The Half Note, Complete March 19, 1965 "Chim Chim Cheree" (20:16) "Impressions" (21:58) March 26, 1965 "One Down, One Up" (27:40) "Afro Blue" (12:44) April 2, 1965 "Creation" (23:11) "I Want To Talk About You" (15:26) "Afro Blue" (5:40) May 5, 1965 "Song of Praise" (19:39) "My Favorite Things" (22:47) ================= It seems like a complete-ish Miles Davis box set when Keith Jarrett was in the band is overdue. JSngry Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago The drawback to a Miles/Keith live set might be the things with Leon Chancler. By his own later admission, he was not yet up to the task at hand. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago 3CD/4LP Half Note set would be the cat's meow. I have the Audio Fidelity and Creation/Brazilia vinyl, but a remastered and complete concert is deserved. Quote
mikeweil Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago I still hope for a completed issue of the 2/2/1966 Coltrane session. Quote

Late Posted 2 hours ago Author Report Posted 2 hours ago I'd love to hear anything from: • Coltrane 1966-1967 • Davis (roughly) 1971-1975 that hasn't been widely circulated. Quote
Milestones Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago I suppose they can still unearth good things by these great artists. The Miles Davis bootlegs offered some good stuff, and I was quite pleased with Coltrane's Both Directions at Once and Blue World. One can't expect anything mind-blowing (at least I don't), but perhaps some more satisfying recordings (probably concerts). Quote

Yeah I’m really curious how they sounded together. Thats Ayler with Tranes rhythm section right? With Ali on drums? That could definitely work.
