Shrinking - season 3 (Apple+)

Physical CDs don't seem easy to buy [I assume you want CDs]. Squidco shows lots of titles. Price is $16.95 a CD. They have the Lyons, but prior titles in the series are not in stock. DG probably gets a few, but you'd have to act very fast, preorder if possible. Back in the day I used to buy from the label on eBay, but that (at least for CDs) seems NLA. Bandcamp has many titles, but physical CDs are 16 Euros + shipping from Europe so US outlets would be better if they have 'em.

No doubt after reviewing their Discogs page. there's some really good stuff. I got there after listening again to Tony Coe's Axel: What Say We Play Today. Really enjoyed that one, esp Gordon Beck. So starting digging around and found that Merrill record. Fruitful search so far.

Disk 5 track 22 is Call me Darling with Thelma C. I think Fred has it right. Keep in mind that what you see on the player probably reflects the entry in Gracenote database which it picked up when you inserted the disk. I noted that there are multiple gracenote entries for some of the disks. I ended up changing the metadata for some disks because what came up had an 'album artist' of V-disk All Stars but other disks did not (I ended up deleting all those album artist entries in the song info). With collections that have multiple artists I always set it up to display the box with one head entry and then disk numbers show up in the track listing. Like this:

Helen Merrill, Gordon Beck, Stephane Grappelli, & Steve Lacy "Music Makers" recorded in Paris, 1986. Issued on Owl Records, a label I know nothing about but one that's got some interesting looking titles.

RIP, he was the singer I really liked in that group.

The V-eagle has landed! Love hearing a disc's worth of Woody right out of the gate. If Mosaic goofed on disc 5, I assume they'll send out replacement copies, as they have in the past when similar mistakes or omissions were made.

That's a great quote from Janek. Setting up unusual combos that he thought would go over well. Sounds like a mix tape session only with live performers.

A blind pilot walks onto a plane waving his white cane. The passengers look at each other in disbelief. The flight attendant gets on the PA and says, "Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see, the captain is legally blind, but rest assured, he's one of the best pilots in the world with over 6,000 successful flights." Next, the co-pilot makes his way to the plane. He's also blind, and he uses his walking stick to make it to the cabin. The flight attendant then says, "Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see, the co-pilot is also blind, but rest assured, he is the second best pilot in the world with over 5,000 successful flights." At this point the plane begins to take off on the runway. It gains speed, and the passengers grow tenser. The plane keeps accelerating faster and faster; and as it approaches the end of the runway, it still hasn't left the ground. The plane is approaching the end of the runway at a really high speed, and the passengers start to scream, "Oh my god oh my god we're all going to die!" Suddenly the plane takes off and begins its ascent. The pilot turns to the co-pilot and says, "The day they stop screaming we're screwed."

Yes, "Call Me Darling" is missing though it's in the booklet's discography and discussed in the notes. But where did you get the list you cite? Also my Apple Music player says there are 24 cuts on the disc, the last being "Error-short repeat of Kansas City Stride". Fortunately I have "Call Me Darling" on VJC-1018 which Mosaic lists as their source. Old age is catching up with me. I figured it out just as I turned on my computer to read responses.

I read his autobio, "Three Dog Nightmare: The Chuck Negron Story". He had a tough life, battling drug addiction, but finally overcoming it. Besides being a vocal star, he also had a college basketball career at Cal State. in LA.

I'm devastated. First the guy gets cancer at an early age, overcomes it, and then dies of a heart attack at 66? I played on two albums with him, and used to drive him to gigs, because he didn't have a car back then. I idolized the guy, and when he walked up to me and told me that he liked the way I play during one gig, I was on cloud nine. Most guys that double don't master BOTH instruments, but he was frightening on BOTH clarinet and sax. As jazzbo said, he was a true 'keeper of the flame' as he showed on his many albums for Concord. What a great loss for jazz. RIP, Kenny...
