  3. Maybe I'm in the minority, but the 70+ mins single cd Columbia sampler they released of the Plugged Nickel, did it for me.
  4. Oh, right — those were Japanese only too.
  5. 1976 and American Columbia wasn't interested for a while. There was no Second Great Quintet yet.
  6. Currently available for pre-order through Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Plugged-Nickel-Live-1965/dp/B0FT7CWYF7/
  7. That's great, Stompin! While we're on the subject, can anyone recommend a wired earbud? At these prices, I might check out one of them too.
  8. Week 18 results Sask 20....Ottawa 13 The Redblacks' defense did pretty well, but their offense wasn't good enough to beat anybody. Katsantonis had three interceptions. With their eleventh loss, the Argos were eliminated from the playoffs. 9. Today
  10. Those might be THE most whack examples of cover art in the entire ‘legit’ Miles catalog.
  11. Hearing that they were on sale I decided to try out some cheap earbuds - Soundcore P30i - which are similar to P20i but with noise cancelling. They arrived today and are not too bad in a pinch, like in a dentist office, riding a bike or some other public situation where it feels a bit clunky to wear bulky headphones or they might fall off, etc. The controls are fiddly, require some memorization (tap twice on the left ear, etc), and there is a tendency to activate every switch while trying to screw the earbud more tightly into my ear. The soundcore app is ok but they don't have a pc version so you have to use a phone or something, which means I have to keep putting on 3x cheaters to see anything - this is not an old person's world.
  12. 1976. Think about that.
  13. For sheer musical pleasure, this is a superb BFT. Good/great tracks all the way through. You don't often hear Mingus on one of these. And I need to get that Elvin Jones record. Isn't that Max on #7? I didn't see a confirmation, but it absolutely has to be him. Love Max Roach. So track #8 is the big mystery of far. Can't say I've heard much (if any) electric bass in tenor/bass/drums trio. If the tenor player is obscure, he/she deserves greater recognition. Oddly, except for Art Pepper, you don't hear many jazz musicians playing "Over the Rainbow." This is a lovely reading by Paul Gonsalves and Earl Hines. Track 12 is certainly Charlie Haden from one of the many duet records with a pianist. Not sure which this would be. Maybe Tokyo Adagio with Gonzalo. Charlie has a lot of tracks where you can hear a pin drop. This is one of them. I love virtually all of Haden's work, and no exception here. Just a marvelous BFT. . .thanks!
  14. Agree! I never had the original 7-disc Japanese set — but that reminds me… I “ran into” a fellow Miles fanatic online around 1992-93, who made me cassette dubs of the whole Japanese set — and then I got the US 8cd set a few years later. But it was well over a decade later before I ever saw (online) what the original 1992 Japanese packaging looked like… https://www.discogs.com/release/8071963-Miles-Davis-Complete-Live-At-Plugged-Nickel-1965
  15. Yesterday
  16. Great band. I haven't seen Clark in a long time. He always seems to get the best guys in his band.
  17. Tomorrow at SFJAZZ, Joe Henderson Lab. Should be great in that intimate space! Mike Clark Quintet w/Eddie Henderson, Craig Handy, Patrice Rushen, Essiet Essiet
  18. Oh ... OK then! 😎
  19. It would have been cool if they referenced the OG Japanese LP covers for a concept. What they're using now is a bit "generic".
  20. My guess is the cds will be the same Redbook mastering as the Redbook layer of the Tower Records SACD set. That would be sourced from the Mosaic LP masters. If the tapes were found between now and the SACD release they would be announcing that as a perceived selling incentive. That is likely a bit of an improvement over the original Redbook set (I haven't compared them myself). I'd be tempted by the vinyl set. . . we'll see if I give in. My original 2 LP US release sounds really good; I've always wondered what the Mosaic set might sound like.
  21. It's unclear whether the CD set mastering is any different from the earlier Legacy CD set, which I have. I might be interested in a hi res download but they don't seem to mention any downloads. Probably end up sticking with original cds... It's a great box and I've often wondered why it remained oop for so long.
  22. October 4 Eddie Gomez - 1944
  23. Many were recorded at Richard Alderson’s RLA Studios,
