  1. Past hour
  2. Paul Bley + Gary Peacock + Paul Motian „Not Two, Not One“ (ECM) 1999 …. Gary Peacock`s bass work on "Not Zero: In Three Parts" is simply out of this world ....
  3. I don't buy as many books as I used to but still buy them. One of the things I found in a recent trip to a local bookstore was the first volume of the Benny Carter discography published by Scarecrow Press. I forget the price but it was a steal.
  4. Mozart String Quartet K.387 and Janacek String Quartet No.2
  5. Is her show available online?
  6. Billie Holiday “The Complete Commodore & Decca Masters” 3 cd set, disc 3 This is the best I’ve heard this material on cd. And what material!
  7. I second this recommendation. There is some fabulous Pres here with Basie from 1944 that somehow did not make it to other releases that I know of, including the Prez's Hat series that focuses mostly on the 1944 broadcasts.
  8. The best way to hear those JJ Columbias is likely on the Mosaic set. The only one I have on separate LP I think is 'A Touch of Satin' on a UK CBS issue.
  9. Today
  10. Another spin of 'Sun Ra - Inside the Light World: Sun Ra Meets the OVC' (Strut 2LPs). A fine previously-unissued 80s Ra session, in good studio sound (at 'Mission Control', Boston) and with nice sleeve liner and booklet, including Bill Sebastien interview. Youtube has video of the band plus OVC light show in action with the music from a couple of tracks on this one. Woops sorry - wrong thread ! Was tempted with this one but the box sold out quickly locally, on the day. Will be more than happy with the CDs.
  11. Wide range of musical interests, as with me. Good thing I found her. I would have stayed single otherwise!
  12. Yeah, I was actually thinking of the 5 separate CDs designated volumes 1-5 and issued by Contemporary/Fanatasy as part of the old OJC series, so technically not a box set. I never bought that PD box set, since I already had the 5 original Contemporary CDs.
  13. CD compiles two Fantasy LPs recorded in 1960 in Havana: Our Man in Havana and Mongo in Havana Bembé!
  14. Adalberto Santiago " Se Va Mi Querer / Fuego Y Candela" (Fania Records) 1981 ..... Adalberto Santiago, the coro of Ismael Quintana + Justo Betancourt and Héctor "Bomberito" Zarzuela on trumpet provide a wothy "double bonus" feature .... btw love the tres heavy groove ....
  15. Did Ted Williams' homer off the red seat really go 502 feet? Nope, it was longer than that The key to understanding (and the foolishness behind people like Mo Vaugnn, David Ortiz and Tristan Casas claiming it must be a legend and it didn't happen) is A) it was a really windy day blowing out to RF B) Fenway didn't have a second deck back then and it was riding the wind before it left the infield.
  16. https://www.discogs.com/release/512838-David-Murray-Power-Quartet-Like-A-Kiss-That-Never-Ends-Como-Un-Beso-Que-Nunca-Se-Acaba Sort of like this one perhaps. The only time I know of 'Power' being used in a Jazz context. Definitely agree that 'Power Trio' is a Rock descriptor. Maybe some Jazz trios, Brötzmann et al, could realistically be described like that but Sonny? Hardly
  17. My weekend pleasure is the music of this unforgetten composer & big band leader
  18. Ironic name. I was very impressed though.
