  1. Thanks for the annotated list. I have cd versions of 18 Prestige (plus other odds and ends on anthologies) and 3 Muse. Most of my lps went to Japan many years ago. FWIW, Fred Seibert produced Single Action. This thread almost stopped my journey through the Jimmy Giuffre Atlantics.
  2. Trouble is, you are basing this all on records. Music happens elsewhere first.
  3. Probably the other way around, if their was an influence.
  4. Actually, when vinyl records were recycled by pressing plants, they used presses to shove the label area out of the disc before grinding up the discs. We used to joke about Crown using the "label punch" for their records.
  5. That's what I thought.
  6. It was meant to emphasize four discrete sound sources, unlike the other formats.
  7. Quad never broke through in the vinyl days because there were 3 different systems - SQ, QS and discrete.
  8. I don't think so, but memory plays tricks. I think is was for Soundstage on PBS.
  9. Saw him live once in the mid '70s. It was a tv taping and he moved on stage like he was floating. Never saw anything like it.
  10. Good catch. But that's what the kids and some "idiots" listen to.
  11. I wondered that too. I'm almost 66 and had no problem. I should mention, in 1965 when the army was trying to draft me, a hearing test was part of the physical. You put on headphones and you were to raise a hand when you could hear something, right or left. I kept both hands raised the whole time to the consternation of the test administrator. I told him I could hear a low level hum cycling throughout and he gave up.
  12. This just dawned on me - don't think it has been mentioned. Air's first recording for Novus was Open Air Suit. The notes say "One piece out of the suit was omitted for recording purposes due to the fact that an lp can only contain so much music. However, Trummps Room 201 Bed 3 will be forthcoming on our next future recording." Might it have been recorded at the time?
  13. I can hear it fine.
  14. All these folks whining about not being able to get free stuff. Dang! I will say Rapidshare is prompt in removing files when you claim/prove copyright.
  15. I wish I still had my Pee Wee Bell record.
  16. Go to your fridge and open a Bud Ice for me.
  17. Liza by Mel Powell, Ruby Braff, Skeeter Best, Oscar Pettiford and Bobby Donaldson. Something like once a year I play this to remind me what I love. Been doing this for decades. It is sure to bring me out of any funk.
  18. Great news. All the best.
