Lovely review. My only quibble with the review is I think the author minimizes Mulgrew. I can't wait for this one. I hope there's more in the vault to be released someday.

When you say it's too loud... what exactly do you mean? Is there distortion? Out of balance? Do you know if the 2006 Standards Brussels box is too loud?

I assume you're talking about the Braxton, right? Even so, that still seems like a very quick sellout. After listening to numerous tracks I caved and got the cd set. I know it's a lot but watching those sets tick down was a good incentive to pull the trigger. I agree that I prefer physical cds for certain artists.

Does his stuff always go this fast??? What was so unique about this set? I know 300 isn't a lot.. but that set seemed to go very fast...

With someone as large a discography as his... it's hard to figure out where to start. I liked what I listened to from this set... but it seems odd as is a departure from his "typical work" or is genuinely genreless????

I mostly get my cds from importcds.com. They've got the CD set @$60 not including shipping...

that's fine with me... as long as they stay in biz.... I still have hope (perhaps unrealistic) that I'll still get my boxed set of live previously unreleased Betty Carter... In the meantime I'll totally live with my upcoming Lee Morgan box

I never had the 2lp set but do have the 3cd set.... That set is great. For me this was a no-brainer for a few reasons... a) I love Lee b) who knows if we'll ever see anymore Lee Morgan releases (especially 4 hours of unreleased live stuff!!!!) and c) I'm curious how much the band evolved over those nights. This is/was a must buy for me.

$80 cd... Just preordered... Cannot wait....!

Amen.. Personally this return to vinyl has gone so overkill for me... There's a reason the CD replaced vinyl and digital replaced the CD... Augh.... I'll grab the cd version when it comes out. Sounds like some of this has been previously released?

I'm assuming since it's a Blue Note release, they are going to do a real CD release... What's odd to me is I wish there some more info about pricing/package presentation/liner notes/etc.... I can't remember the last 8CD Blue Note release that wasn't Mosaic... I would think they would promote this more....

Any of you guys hip to what's happening there this summer? I'm on their email list and they've announced the plan/tickets for the Folk Festival. They've said the Jazz Festival info is coming but didn't say when... One thing that's really annoying is that they are giving first ticket dibs to "members" of the Festival. When I emailed them telling them I don't remember any kind of "membership" plan, they said it was only available during and at the jazz festival. I explained that I'd be going to for 20+ years and this was the first I've ever heard of it. Are any of you guys Newport Jazz Festival "members" and got any upcoming ticket/scheduling info? Thanks.
