  1. So the festival lineup was announced a few weeks ago. I know Christian McBride took over as artistic director from George Wein several years ago. Since then I tend not to know 75% of the bands that get booked for the festival. I'm inclined to go for one day to see Joe Lovano, Antonio Sanchez, Jack DeJohnette, and Maria Schneider but I never heard of most of these bands. I gave a listen to the Holly Bowling releases and that sounds interesting... Anybody got any thoughts about this lineup and the direction of the festival in general? https://www.newportjazz.org/lineup
  2. Is it my imagination or is the first release from him in a long time???
  3. Has anyone preordered this? It looks like it hasn't shipped yet, right? I'm waffling on this one.
  4. Yea I gave those a listen and I liked it more than I thought I would... This is presenting a dilemma.....
  5. I'm on the fence with this one as I'm not familiar with a lot of the artists. Is there any streaming/digital stuff of these musicians that would give me a taste of what will be on box set?
  6. Am I missing something? What's the point of this?
  7. For those of you interested... the Itunes store has it on preorder for a ridiculous $10.99.... Normally I'd like physical discs and the liner notes, but this is a can't miss price for me.
  8. I'm kinda with you... They started out fantastic.. and the last few iterations of the band and their live releases have been disappointing.
  9. I grabbed this as soon as I saw it. I've got a ton of McCoy but still miss him. Probably saw him perform live more than anybody else.... maybe 20 times... Don't like Louis Hayes but I can work with Avery Sharpe...
  10. How come no one has mentioned his Talking Jazz interviews? That's actually how I learned about him. Loved that series. Guess it's available below... https://talkingjazz.bandcamp.com
  11. I think they are pretty good, not great. Their dominant appeal is to a younger generation which is a good thing in general. Look if this gets some teens and twenty-somethings into jazz... great... If they stick with it, they'll find much much more and become us in 30 years ....
  12. I've got a question for you... What's the best Miles record when Carlos Santana was in the band?? Preferably live...
  13. Is there any plan (e.g., Mosaic) for someone to clean this up and release it in a clean, newly mastered box?
  14. Does anybody know anything about this? is this just a generic compilation of stuff that was always out? Or is a unique set? Thanks. https://www.jazzmessengers.com/es/90431/nina-simone/ninasblues1959-1962
  15. Having got through the set for the first time, the one disc I was the most impressed with was the solo sessions of Disc 2. Sound on Disc 1 was rough.
  16. Desmond Live 1975 Toronto Recordings.
  17. Thanks... I'm going to have to look into this...
  18. Since I don't collect LPs I don't have/know what those are... Any suggestions?
  19. The boxes take up a ton of space.....I'm mainly trying to preserve them as long as possible without wasting space. This is what I tried to do but I'm not happy with it. IMG_0367.pdf
  20. How do you guys store these? I purchased a vinyl box a long time ago and have about 50-60 sets/booklets but I don't think my setup is good for long term care. I know the booklets are valuable. Thanks,
  21. Interesting piece... I never heard of him before... the-solo-performances-of-hasaan-ibn-ali-expand-the-history-of-jazz
  22. Which discs or sets are harder to hear?
  23. It's such a bad commercial because she doesn't seem comfortable in the red high heels and it's been played like 1000 times in the last few weeks.
