  1. Just got finished listening to this 3cd set by Hip-O-Select.. I have to say... it was great. Packaging and liner notes (with the original LP covers) was very nice. The first disc is only 37 minutes and the sound quality is weak... but the last 2 discs are fabulous. I've got the OP Mosaic set in my listening queue but I suspect this is an EXCELLENT companion set... Oh man... Really good.. Highly recommended!!! :excited: (But note the issues with Disc 1)
  2. Now that I've given the entire set a spin over the last 4 days.. I have to say.... :excl: :tup  :D There are some gorgeous ballads on this set... The organ is non-obtrusive... It really is a remarkable set....
  3. Bing Disc 6... Have to say.. Overall I REALLY like this set....
  4. Discs 1 - 3 SF Jazz Collective Live 2008 The Music of Wayne Shorter....!!!
  5. Disc 3... Not a bad way to start Thanksgiving morning....!
  6. Just started Disc 1 and I completely agree with you.... :excited:
  7. I believe the 3cd set contains the only live version of "the Sidewinder"... I believe he recorded....
  8. Benny Goodman Disc 7.... :tup
  9. I don't like organ too.. but this set seems far too intriguing to me to pass up... I'll be listening to it over Thanksgiving weekend so I'll let you know if it bugs me... Can anyone answer this question yet? Why don't you ask Mosaic? I did a while ago, but Scott Wenzel couldn't give me an answer and Michael Cuscuna wasn't available. I just sent them another e-mail, but in the meantime maybe someone here could answer my question, I'd appreciate it. Just got a reply from Scott. He doesn't know exactly, but he thinks there are less than 10 tracks with celeste and maybe half of the set is with organ. No set for me, I'm afraid The big deal for me is that I don't like neither organ nor celeste.
  10. what's the big deal about an organ??? Can anyone answer this question yet? Why don't you ask Mosaic? 11. Moved on to Count Basie 50's studio sessions Disc 3... Which I'm enjoying quite a bit no tap dancing here...
  12. Mine is in the back of the booklet instead of on the inside cover.... Number 248.....
  13. Benny Goodman Disc 2... I could do without the tap dancing.... :tdown :tdown
  14. Bing just arrived on my doorstep... And he will be singing to me shortly...
  15. Finally up to Disc 6.. Overall... okay not great... Very uneven... I didn't expect as many vocals....
  16. Onto Disc 3... A little more what I expected... Woody Herman Capitol Recordings... Disc 2... So far... Could be that I'm just sick....
  17. I thought the packaging (and music) was great.. I didn't have any problems with the CD's... Ella's goofing around on about 3 or 4 songs but otherwise I highly recommend it...! Yes it's from the same gig but there's no duplication between the individual CD and the new boxed set....
  18. do we know of a US distributor?
  19. out on storyville... http://www.storyvillerecords.com/default.a...mp;state_2838=2 I have yet to find a stateside distributor... What do the masses think???
  20. Disc 1 Complete HRS Sessions...
  21. Disc 2 of 4.... :excited: Even though I haven't finished this set... I'm highly recommending it.. Ella in a quartet live.. still in her prime...
  22. No F***king way... What's the Clifford and Cole about? Where'd you get the info? Previously unreleased material???? :excited: :excited: The packaging impressed me quite a bit as well. On the downside, the set is sized like a book and will have to be stored with the hardcovers instead of the cd boxed sets. Upcoming sets from Hip-o-Select: Clifford Brown Nat King Cole "Tribute to Thelonious"
  23. Disc 1 of 4 - Ella Twelve Nights in Hollywood... I LOVE the packaging!!! Music is pretty damn good too...
  24. But the strike was over 3 days ago.....
