  1. I'm with you on that one... Got my eyes on the Oliver Nelson, McCoy, Tony W., Mulligan.. and MAYBE even the Rich... Anyway I spend next year's tax refund (now - without telling my wife)?
  2. website tunes sound fantastic... I'm juiced to get this stuff (and I didn't get 3,000 hits or 500 homers...
  3. Just curious.... Do you NOT like OP in general or just this session? Oscar Peterson's unnecessary busy playing spoiled that album for me. ←
  4. I admire your resolve.... I'm too weak... bought mine a few months ago... (and don't regret it though) there are a few of the individual CD's are available... Anita Sings the Most... A MUST-HAVE!!!!!!!!!
  5. Fab!!!!!!!!!! It is a great set..... ← Oh it's wonderful. Of course I knew Elvin from his work with 'Trane but the sheer variety of the music here made listening to the whole box in one day feel like nothing. (Listening at work allows one to listen to entire Mosaics in a day) Especialy love the sax trio stuff and the concert on the last 2 discs. ←
  6. i might have to develop 50 aliases to rig the voting for Anita... After all I go to both the Chicago AND Florida school of voting.....
  7. now this is a new one (at least to my eyes!)... If you're gonna sell a partial set, at leat SAY that,,,, talk about misleading!!!!!!!!!!!! And it ain't even OOP!!!!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/Blue-Note-HANK-MOBLEY-...1QQcmdZViewItem
  8. I have both and I think I'm the only person JJ didn't work for... So Anita!!!!
  9. yes.. .I was talking about the regular reissues... that's extremely helpful... thanks...
  10. you and me both.. although I cop... I only got the Anita about 2 months ago.. but it is NICE NOT to have to panic... (and think about which bill is getting paid late this month... since I HAVE to get this set...
  11. a few years ago I was able to get this 12 CD box set (new) for a ridiculous price (something like $60 or something ) even though I had 6 or 7 of the single cd releases.... I've only had once chance to listen to the entire set.... For those of you who may remember... was the sound better on the box set or on the individual CD releases???? thanks
  12. that's great.... up here (boston) some times it's next day... but more importantly... WHAT DID YOU GET???
  13. hate to ask this... but can someone post the CD discography of The Complete Recordings of the Paul Desmond Quartet with Jim Hall? thanks
  14. Glad you like Ron... Maybe I'll eventually catch up to all the "I owe you ones"... Look foward to your full review when you finish....
  15. I have to say my fave on this set... is the set with Oscar Peterson (I think it's part of Disc 4)... particularly... "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered..." Although I was just today listening to Disc 9's "Peel Me A Grape"... that's got some sexiness to it....
  16. I can understand your sentiment... I actually had no introduction to Ms. O'Day prior to the Mosaic set... (Minus a few MP3's that found their way onto my computer... ... but I can tell you I'm VERY happy to have purchased this set... I now have a genuine feeling of who this artist is.... and what she had to offer (which was a lot).... If I didn't pull the trigger 2 months ago... I'd do it again now....
  17. I completely agree about the Jaspar comment..... It's really a shame he wasn't that well known... quote=Dave James,Jul 26 2005, 12:05 AM] ..... The Johnson is among my top five instrumental Mosaics. Again, as has been mentioned elsewhere, one of the big plusses here, and one of the big surprises as well, is the tenor saxophone of Bobby Jaspar. You just don't run into him all that often and these recordings make a strong case for how good he really was. His playing is probably more well represented on this set than it is anywhere else. Up over and out. ←
  18. One of the things that surprised me about the Anita O'Day box... (since I knew nothing of her before buying it).. was that many critics said she didn't have much technical/dynamic range... (and I would agree with that assessment) AND she knew how to make all kinds of songs work both at an emotional level and a technical level... (and today with all these "wanna-be" vocalists trying constantly to do too much with a song... ) Anita often knew exactly when to accentuate and when not to.... Another of the things I really liked about the set... is that I played it pretty consecutively and never really got bored... I mean when you listen to 10 hours (in a row) of any artist it's easy to feel like it's repetitious.... but I never felt this with this set... The only other Mosaic set I felt that way about... (sorry Ron S.... I know this is on your "to buy" list and you just bit the O'Day/JJ bullett).... but it is the Elvin Jones.... Just totally interesting from 1st to last cut... Finally... I know some of this is out on individvual CDs... but I know that I wouldn't have appreciated the scope/consistency/vibrancy of her work, if I had purchased one or two individual CD's....The totality of the box feels like I've seen her in concert 6 or 7 times.. (with different settings and bands)... I just really, really liked this set.... but that's just my humble opinion...
  19. I would do one better and call them at 9:01am EST tommorrow... they're very good at that kinda stuff... 203.327.7111 good luck... and for what its' worth.... I have both and prefer the Anita....
  20. thanks for posting this.... man... I love this set....
  21. I bought my O'Day set about 2 months ago and it's #2804 of 7500... so it's clear they're running outta time.... grab it....
  22. Good man Ron... I really think you'll like the Anita
