Did we watch the same game? I must admit, though, that I'm not a Gerrard fan; I've never quite understood what people see in him. OK, he's a good player, but in my opinion not one of the greats. That's right, but elsewhere...
-
Doesn't look all that likely @ 75 minutes. ...and it didn't happen. A poor English game. Haven't seen Gerrard - apart from his goal - or Rooney. Why on earth didn't Capello play Rooney in his favourite spot?? He looked lost. England favourites for the title? I don't think so, based on this performance.

None of the 8 teams that have played so far have impressed me very much, but that's usually the case in the first days of a World Cup. Argentina were good in the first part of their game against Nigeria, but, as Van Basten II said, they lost steam later on; some of their players looked very tired. Greece were the weakest team by far, while South Korea were better than I expected. I'm looking foward to the England v United States game later today.

Please continue there. Thanks.

The second yellow card (= red) was fully justified, it should have been a straight red. These horrid fouls (going straight for someone's leg instead of the ball) are happening way too often and the punishment should be much tougher than it has been in the various leagues so far. I found the French team very disappointing, sterile and void of ideas, while Uruguay played the way I expected them to play: they don't have many players who are creative, so they count on their defence and prowl, and strike when they see a chance.
-
So did México. 1-1, with only a few minutes left. Still not a very good game.
-
Don't count on it
-
I agree, that loud, monotonous vuvuzela sound is really very annoying Another boring opening game, by the way, with two teams that seem to be incapable of playing creative football. Pity.

PayPal's not-so-great exchange rate takes care of the fee when sending money in a foreign currency.

Correct.

I don't agree that I made a bad call (see also Jim's comment in this thread); on the contrary, I stand by my decision and I still think you shouldn't have made my PMs public (whether they contained anything sensitive or not is not the point), you should have contacted Jim instead.
-
I will only make the comments below and stay out of this thread for the rest: a) Not allowing criticism of asking prices has been board policy for quite some time now, whether you like it or not. b) Contrary to what he claimed I was not offended by Bright Moments' deleted post; personal feelings don't play any part in this. c) I don't appreciate that Bright Moments made my PMs public without asking my permission; that's in bad taste. d) There's no difference between criticizing asking prices in a sale ad and criticizing asking prices in an auction ad, no matter who posted the ad, a newbie or a long-time member; there's no rule or board policy that forbids newbies - relative or not - to post ads like this.
-
Which version of IE do you use? If it's IE8, click on the compatibility button next to the address bar at the top of the page and try composing a PM again. I use IE8 and when I'm composing a PM I don't have any problems with the "subject" bar.

Ahmad Jamal and Carter/Bradford Mosaics can be pre-ordered

Verve and Chess/Argo are both part of Universal. -
Never noticed that. MG Berigan has 8 thousand and something posts, without the politcal forum being counted. Perhaps he'd be #1 if they were all added back in MG If I remember correctly posts in the political forum did count until Jim disabled the post count in that forum a while ago; that's probably why Berigan has so many posts.

The Complete Ahmad Jamal Trio Argo Sessions 1956-1962 John Carter & Bobby Bradford -
It's come back now. How did that post vanish and reappear in the same spot? I noticed that yesterday as well. No idea how that happened. It's the first photo I've posted so may have done something wrong. Not your fault. Something went wrong and has been rectified.

Same here. The Stones were in their prime in the 1960s. After Exile things went downhill very fast in my opinion.

That's because they're moving. No need to worry.

I fully understand your point of view, but I don't have much of this material (actually, I don't have any of the Carter/Bradford sessions) and I'd rather have sets whose sources are compromised on a few points than no sets at all. -

Just saw this note on the Carter/Bradford set: "The analog masters for SECRETS no longer exist. Disc Two, tracks 2–5 were transferred from the original vinyl to digital 24/96 by Jonathan Horwich." -

The Ahmad Jamal set was mastered by Malcolm Addey. This is what Michael Cuscuna wrote about the Jamal set: "Producer’s note: In 2007, this set was well on its way with Ahmad Jamal’s blessing. He listened to and approved a multitude of previously unissued material, expanding the legacy of this extraordinary trio. A tape search proved problematic and we spent the next two years scouring various Ahmad Jamal Argo masters scouring Europe and Japan as well as the US. As you can hear, this legacy has been reconstructed although almost half of it has comes from digital sources. Both analog and digital sources have minor problems here and there such as the small frying sound on disc 4, track 5. The only major problem is the “Count “Em 88” album (disc 1, tracks 1-9) which for years was available only in electronically-rechanneled stereo. The only existing source in 2010 is a Japanese CD master that seems to have been dubbed from an LP. It has wow and flutter and occasional electronic static as on track 5. Every effort has been made to bring all of this music to you in the best possible fidelity." -
