  1. On a related note, the complete Blue Note recordings 1939-2010 will be available on a thumb drive for you to purchase for Xmas. Bertrand.
  2. Chuck, Do you think this was a bad decision on the part of the head of Sony? Bertrand.
  3. Yes, I find the piano to be a lot more of an issue. Bertrand.
  4. I immediately thought of Lee Morgan. He always wore his pants that way - apparently it was the fashion. Bertrand.
  5. Probably someone else who somehow thinks I'm being a drama queen. Perhaps it's time for me to move on. Bertrand.
  6. Happy belated birthday! Bertrand.
  7. I found a press release on the web which confirms that the Tanglewood in the box is the same date as Wolfgang. I would have preferred an actual CD, but I really don't think the shows on Wolfgang's vault are boots. Bertrand.
  8. As I mentioned in post #56 above, there is a Miles at Tanglewood set available at Wolfgang's vault dated 8/18/70. 1) What is the date of the Tanglewood set in the big box? 2) What else is in the big box that's not in the 1998 box or the Legacy set? Bertrand. P.S. Amazon and Wolfgang show the same track listing. Amazon shows nothing else in the box except the vinyl version.
  9. A rockin' week-end: Last night I saw Magma at the French Embassy (a show I will never forget), and this afternoon I went to see the Zappa Plays Zappa thing in Baltimore with the unveiling of the statue etc. Bertrand.
  10. I just saw that you can buy a Miles at Tanglewood gig (8/18/70) at Wolfgang's vault. Is this the same show that will be included in the mega-box? Anything else in the mega-box of interest? Bertrand.
  11. Is she related to Beefheart? Bertrand.
  12. So far just listened to the two new alternates. Both are great - Wayne takes a fairly long solo on 'Spanish Key', and both Wayne and Miles play on 'John McLaughlin' (they did not play on the master take). Why these were left off the 1998 box is a mystery. I hope to watch the DVD this week-end. Bertrand.
  13. Despite my best efforts, I could not get any more info on the mystery guests. I will most likely go see McCoy in Virginia. Bertrand.
  14. So far it's all material that was available on Mosaic, it seems. One positive aspect is that as long as they are always available, the Andrew Hill set will never be completly OOP. Of course, they could expand the concept and start putting out vault stuff that has never seen the light of day (unissued Wayne and Jackie sessions)... Bertrand.
  15. That's what I thought I'd read in the e-mail as well, but GregK seemed to think otherwise. Can't say I find much anymore even with the coupon, and I can probably get the same price online, but I just like the browsing at an actual store - I will sometimes see something I didn't think to look for this way. With online shopping, I need to know ahead of time what I want. Of course, online has a lot more inventory. I'll get the BB soon, too bad it's still the 1998 mastering. I agree with Chuck on principle, but medjuck's rationale makes sense to me. This is the first time I will be able to get an official copy of a DVD of Miles and Wayne. Unless I'm mistaken, all the other ones out there are European boots. Why the estate didn't put out a DVD box-set years ago with some quintet shows and some lost quintet shows is beyond me. Bertrand.
  16. Do you think they will no longer mail out those 33% to 40% off coupons? It was not clear from the article. Bertrand.
  17. Welcome back! Bertrand.
  18. After having bitched about this (no pun intended), I did some math. The Amazon description of the 3-CD set is as follows: http://www.amazon.com/Bitches-Brew-Legacy-Miles-Davis/dp/tracks/B003M0H4NG/ref=dp_tracks_all_1#disc_2 Retail price is about $24, so I could get it for about $16 with a Borders' coupon. In addition to the 6 usual tracks, for this price I get two alternates (why were these not in the 4-CD box?), a few singles, and most importantly the DVD. As annoying as it might be to have another version of BB to store in my house, this seems worth getting since it is a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. One question: a friend of mine said there were some errors in the remastering of the box set with respect to the echos (I can get the details later) which were done correctly in the Japanese version. I wonder if the error still exists in this version. Bertrand.
  19. I keep counting and I keep getting five... Bertrand.
  20. I'm missing something - why are the tapes owned by Universal? I thought Concord owned the Fantasy stuff, including Riverside. Bertrand.
  21. Happy birthday wishes to a truly inspiring artist. Bertrand.
  22. Is it the same people who have been caught in the traffic jam for the whole ten days, or is there some sort of tag team/relay going on as they approach the exit ramps? There's too many fucking people on the planet, starting with the Marsalis family. Bertrand.
  23. The one mjzee posted is the one that I think is Herbie. The other one could be Wayne although I wouldn't bet money on it. If there is a chance to see Wayne and Sonny together, I might try to make it up there. My other option that night is McCoy with Gary Bartz in the DC area. Tough choice. I know someone else I can ask about Wayne. I will try that route. Bertrand.
  24. The second could very well be Herbie. The first could be Wayne Shorter. If only we knew someone who was close personal friends with Wayne and Herbie... Bertrand.
