  1. The song they play on Tribute To Blackwell is 'Guinea', not 'Togo'. It's a mix-up on the CD cover. Bertrand.
  2. Tell me more about this snowstorm - I was thinking of taking a bus up from DC on Saturday. Guy, The cover is $30 everyday, week-end or not. Bertrand.
  3. The sacking of Shukat is no great loss. He's given bad advice to many estates. The 1967 DVD is LONG overdue. Apparently, a DVD circulated with promos of the 60s quintet box (probably the same). Why the fuck it wasn't commercialized at the time is a mystery. It's also excellent news because it means the Mosaic box of live 60s stuff may be closer now. Bertrand.

    Neil Young

I see no one has mentioned Comes A Time yet? Bertrand.
  5. Did she and Mingus know each other (well or at all) back in 1964? I thought they met a bit later. Bertrand.
  6. Long John Silver is a total mess. Bark has its moments, though. Bertrand.
  7. Does Reggie Johnson live in Paris? Bertrand.
  8. Prediction: he will die stumbling over a sofa. Bertrand.

    The Gigolo

Man, I bust my ass to get 'em to finally correct the composer credit on 'Trapped', and then they go and attribute 'The Gigolo' to Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn. I'm so pissed off right now I can't see straight! Bertrand.
  10. Ron, I am trying to go also, either Friday or Saturday. It would be great to meet. Bertrand.
  11. Chuck is being way too generous - the sound on the two Left Bank Jazz Society sets is actually quite bad - distorted piano, nasal alto etc. It's especially problematic when applied to Jackie's unique tone - it really sounds 'off'. The playing is great, but I really have trouble listening to these too often. Montmartre and the two Dexters are fabulous; Lullaby is only 'very good'. Bertrand.
  12. Daniel, I was thinking the same thing! Bertrand.
  13. Could the LP have been released both ways at the time? Or could there have been a mix-up in the pressings at the time, so that some of the covers came out with the sides flipped? The latter scenario is not impossible - my LP of Little Feat's Feets Don't Fail Me Now lists some songs on the back cover that did not appear on the LP, and omits others that did. Bertrand.
  14. Don't forget that Bitches' Brew was inspired by Mother Ship... Bertrand.
  15. Thanks Brownie! Strange that the Watkins was flipped. Bertrand.
  16. Thank you! Bertrand.
  17. Are the track order below correct? Thanks, Bertrand. Donald Byrd: Byrd's Eye View Doug's Blues - El Sino - Everything Happens To Me - Hank's Tune - Hank's Other Tune (Late Show) - Crazy Rhythm (bonus track) Donald Byrd: Byrd Blows On Beacon Hill Little Rock Getaway - Polka Dots And Moonbeams - People Will Say We're In Love - If I love Again - What's New? - Stella By Starlight Doug Watkins: Watkins At Large Return To Paradise - Phinupi - Phil T. McNasty's Blues - More Of The Same - Panonica
  18. I'm trying to figure out the original track order for the two 10 inch LPs that make up the Horace Silver Trio sessions. The current CD (RVG) has: LP 5018 (New Faces - New Sounds) Safari - Ecaroh - Prelude To A Kiss - Thou Swell - Quicksilver - Horoscope - Yeah - Knowledge Box LP 5034 (HS Trio Volume Two) How About You? - I Remember You - Silverware - Message From Kenya - Opus De Funk - Nothing But The Soul - Buhaina - Day In, Day Out Are these the correct album titles and track sequences? Blumenthal's notes claim so. Thanks, Bertrand.
  19. The Powell book will see the light of day, I guarantee it. Pullman is a meticulous researcher who leaves no stone unturned. He's dug up so much it's mind-boggling. These things take time. I'd rather wait 15 years for a comprehensive Bud book then get something tossed together in 2 years like Footprints. Bertrand.
  20. What composer credit is given for 'Rigor Mortis'? How do they spell it? Thanks, Bertrand.
  21. Maybe that's because it's really Patton on the album, not Young. Bertrand.
  22. Like many of the unissued Blue Notes, this is my favorite Hubbard albums. 'Assunta' has one of the greatest tenor solos in the Wayne Shorter discography. Bertrand.
  23. They all sat down together with pencils and locked the door and didn't come out again until the song was done. It was a true collaborative effort. They don't make songwriting teams like that anymore. Bertrand.
