I am of course going to buy this - I love Joe. I'm just curious to know if there are any new originals. I do hope there are not vocals on every track, but even that would not keep me from getting it. I'm glad Dwayne Burno finally got to record with Joe - he told me a few years ago how much he loves playing with him. He's at the Iridium 4/6-7; I plan to be there. Bertrand.

'Trapped is composed by Wayne Shorter on the cd label'. Thanks. I'm glad that got corrected this time around. Bertrand.
-
Did Wayne show up to collect his statuette? Bertrand.

This is coming out on 2/21 on Savant. Didn't even know about it until yesterday. There are some tunes from other records, some new stuff. I don't know how many are new Chambers compositions. A vocalist is listed at CD Universe. What do we know about this CD? How many tracks have vocals? Thanks, Bertrand.

Who is credited as composer of 'Trapped' on the RVG of the Gigolo? Thanks, Bertrand.

Blue Note is putting out CD-rs now? I guess it's their form of copy protection. Bertrand.

Adam, Thanks for the set list. There is a piece called 'Not Sa No Sa' on the Jazzpar CD The Day The World Stood Still. I was hoping they would do some material from the Mosaic Select - I think 'Monkash' (AKA 'Gentle Suspension') would work in this context. Sorry I missed this group. Bertrand.

Did they play Andrew's compositions exclusively, or some pieces 'inspired' by Andrew's music? I'm sorry I missed this by a few days. Bertrand.

I always think of her as 'Angelina Uglie', chiefly because of those lips (and those weird pictures of her making out with her brother). Bertrand.

I actually got to meet Jack Casady a few weeks ago at a Link Wray tribute! He seemed like a nice, down to earth guy. I mentioned my Jazz activities, and he wanted to make sure that the word got out that the legendary D.C. guitarist Bill Harris was a major influence/mentor/teacher. He thought Bill did not get nearly enough recognition (remember that Jack started on guitar). I know very little about Bill myself. I knew of him, and he used to host barbecue/jam sessions at his house which were legendary. He died around the time I moved to D.C., so I totally missed him. Time to do some more research. Others speak lovingly of him as well. I got 5 of the Airplane reissues. My only quibble is that some of the bonus tracks are useless. Also, for Volunteers, I would have preferred the alternates rather than some so-so live stuff. Bertrand.

2006 annual wish-list for Conns (or maybe Waters?)

Hans, Are there any tracks from K.B. Blues that are NOT on the 2-CD set? Your post kind of suggests this. Yul, Last I heard, the Master Tape from Golden Boy is AWOL. Bertrand. -
I'm glad no one mentioned Ahmad Jamal - we don't need a lawsuit here. Bertrand.

I don't know why English has become the language used universally for people from different countries to communicate; perhaps a linguist could shed some light. It's certainly nothing I have imposed. Should we perhaps switch to Latin? I'd be all for it. It would keep out some idiots. Bertrand.

I've posted details elsewhere. Butch will show up sporadically, then disappear for months on end. Last time I saw him was at a Katrina benefit on 9/11/05. He said he had not played bass in a year. He played bass for a half a tune that night, and sang one other tune. When he's together, he can still play great. But he has not gigged steadily in many years. I also suggest doing a search to see what else we have previously discussed. Bertrand.

That Jackie session drives me nuts. I don't care how bad the drummer is, it's got JACKIE and WOODY and TYRONE and HUTCH! I want to hear it! Bertrand. -
Oh, and the meaning of my second sentence as originally posted was perfectly clear from my first sentence, assuming you had read it. Bertrand.

Post edited for clarification, for those who thought I was some sort of American imperialist. Quite frankly, I'd be happy to post in French from now on. Bertrand.

It's amazing how any post by Clem generates five more trying to figure out what he is talking about. What a waste of our precious bandwidth. Bertrand.

Andrew Hill - Compulsion, and the two unissued sessions that were in the first Mosaic box (2/10/65 and 3/7/66). If necessary (won't sell yada yada), they could fit the three sessions on a 2-CD set and label it Compulsion with mucho bonus cuts. Bertrand. -
Immediate use for me: I now have the composer credits for the Thornel Schwartz record. By the way, they go out on a limb and formally claim that Lawrence Olds is really Larry Young. Is there anyone here that has any doubts? Bertrand.

'Condi is an aspiring concert pianist and currently works for the United States of America as the National Security Advisor'. Translation: 'In her spare time, Condi is a federal employee in charge of preventing the world from being nuked into oblivion by Al Qaeda'. Do you get dental with that? Bertrand.

Perhaps the question is a bit awkwardly phrased, but I don't think the question is all that elementary. Of course, he made some killer records, but so did a lot of people at the time. But what about Miles turned him into a household name way beyond the insular word of jazz? I don't think it's really addressed in the books. There is no clear-cut answer, of course. His charisma and self-confidence/arrogance are one factor, of course, but again, he's not the only one. Bertrand.

I just found out there will be a Memorial Service for drummer Sherman Ferguson (who just died) at Catalina's 1-4 on Sunday. I will possibly go to that, especially if there's a chance Kenny Burrell will show up. Bertrand.
-
Jon, It looks like several of us will be at the Lee Morgan tribute at Claremont McKenna college, so that's one option. Bertrand.

'Produced by Vincent Wilburn, supervised (at a distance) by Bob Weinstock'. Bertrand.
