  1. Anybody know what title's on the flip side?
  2. Makes Cappello and his team of overpaid OAPs look half way decent..
  3. That's the one I have - any copy of the CD version I have seen so far was too expensive for me. This music deserves the Mosaic treatment, and I'm pretty sure Cuscuna has it on his to-do-list.
  4. If the Dutch can beat Brazil's team, they can beat Uruguay just as well - as Suarez' action and most of all his behaviour afterwards - I think this talk about the hand of God is plain disgusting - they would deserve to be kicked out. I think what the South American teams lack is real team spirit - Germany's former keeper Kahn, who commented on the game, stated players like Messi are not really engaged in defense or other actions beyond their main task. Now compare that to Klose ... German coach Löw really made a team out of this "boy group" as they have been called over here and set a new standard - my hat is off to him and the team. If they beat Argentina, they can beat anybody. I thought they could make it, but 4:0 .... fantastic!
  5. The early Fifties Columbia sessions would be nice to have in one package ...
  6. Benny Powell was one of the greatest trombonists in jazz, IMHO - one of the most versatile, for sure. I will miss him. R.I.P.
  7. Seems you're living in the wrong town ... all peaceful joy over here - probably more happeing in central city. I think that mostly young team deverved to win - they have a lot of potential. p.s. by now that talk about karma re. England vs. Germany should be considered settled. For me it is.
  8. No idea - not too much happening there ...
  9. I feel sorry for the African teams, but they who make the goals will move on - I vividly remember the facial expression of one player of the Cameroon team after he missed standing alone before a goal wide open ... not taking such chances is fatal in such a tournament. Too bad the Ivory Coast's victory came somewhat too late - Portugal vs. Brazil was a disappointing, play-it-safe game. Now there will be Spain vs. Portugal ... and Brazil vs. Chile, and Argentina vs. Mexiko - throwing each other out of the tournament, the teams from South America and Iberia ...
  10. Wish they would present this at Darmstadt as well ...
  11. Thanks Ubu re the King Cole Box - I will try to find a reasonably priced copy. ---------------------------- Don't remember if the Gil Fuller was on the list, but got it anyway, and it turned out to be another gem of West Coast Big band Jazz:
  12. A bunch of junkies at work, eh?
  13. Brubeck, Dave Tonight Only!!!! DBQ with Carmen McRae I was so disappointed went Columbia released that CD sampler of all of Brubeck's vocal encounters instead of complete single CD reissues. Only the Rushing was reissued in full. Too bad, since what I heard from the McRae LP is excellent, and the tracks with her featured from the Real Ambassadors LP would have made a nice bonus.
  14. "How's for a taping session, honey?"
  15. Look at it this way. You also get Comin' Your Way, Jubilee Shout, A Chip Off The Old Block, Mr. Natural and In Memory Of (the last 2 never on CD outside the Mosaic, afaik). Of course, of course ... not that I wanted to complain. It's only that, if it's such a good album, it would have deserved a single reissue. How did it happen? Never leave your doors open with a rare LP on the turntable ...
  16. I love Thad Jones' playing, so I always wanted to hear this album someday. Seems I will have to go for the Mosaic ...
  17. Must be your locals customs office - they never treated me that bad, only charged import tax. And if Mosaic includes an invoice (you must ask them to do so) they pre-calculate so the postman can collect it. If they treat you like this they're bastids.
  18. Eddie, Manny & Carlos Duran - and Madeleine, Eddie's wife
  19. This is the first Blue Note I bought a second copy of - just in case the first one will corrode ... I'd hate to be without these recordings. JPC in Germany is selling this one cheaply. How's the King Cole Box? I'm tempted by this one, although I really can't afford it right now. It's strictly instrumental, isn't it?
  20. This would be my first choice for a series of Pacific Jazz SACD reissues. Beautiful soundstage, as Late has pointed out above.
  21. Were there any chances at the time that anybody would get the idea?
  22. I immediately thought there was soemthing not quite right about Mr. Ramirez' behaviour ...
  23. Re. Hubert Laws - I like his early albums for Atlantic quite a bit, recorded during his stay with Mongo's band. Nice mixture of straightahead and Latin tunes. Two of them were reissued on one CD by Rhino, The Laws of Jazz & Flute By-Laws:
  24. My thoughts exactly! I have the late 1970's big band stuff, but an expanded quintet would have sounded differently, I'm sure.
