    Ray Crawford

I cherish that Candid LP - Crawford, Coles, and Payne is a great frontline, and Crawford made the best out of it. It's a tragedy this album was not issued at the time. There are some very hard to find solo recordings ... ... but he already was at his best in the early Ahmad Jamal Trio that recorded for Parrott (reissued on Argo) and Epic - all of it is on this double CD:
  3. I can't believe it, but if his parents died young already ... Great, groovy drummer - I always liked him. R.I.P.
  4. Can someone please desgin some cover with "tickety-boo" as CD title?
  5. This girl can play!!! http://www.tinethinghelseth.com/en/
  6. Since I won't have any time to post it on Monday, here 'tis now: The Cedar Walton Quartet with Javon jackson, David Williams, and Alvin Queen. Very much looking forward to this - I've seen Walton perform more often than any other jazz musician!
  7. I've been wanting to hear this session for a long time now, but it was never reissued ... not even in Japan . Not true , those four tracks were reissued on this CD : http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/record.php?record_id=333 The original 7-inch EP looks like this : Thanks - especially for the EP cover - just found out myself while browsing through the Blue Moon catalogue.
  8. ... and the refreshingly high number of participants shows all the BFT needed was a break, it seems!
  9. Congrats! Happens Mr. Bassman and myself started with the Mikail Aslan Ensemble 8 years ago - so I know how long that feels!
  10. I've been wanting to hear this session for a long time now, but it was never reissued ... not even in Japan. Prestige did a twofer LP of all Zoot Sims sides for Prestige, but omitted that session!
  11. About the redhead?
  12. Great - I will get me a copy!
  13. Their e-mail can be found on this webpage - I couldn't find any any webshop, but I'd say e-mail and ask them.
  14. That's the one I fooled y'all with in my first blindfold test
  15. R.I.P.
  16. Ouch indeed - I have one of these things and know what they can do, although I was careful enough so far. Best wishes!!!
  17. The bigger the sax, the shorter the pants?
  18. Back to blindfolded business! I'm in! Will take the time to listen between packing and unpacking books and CDs, I promise!
  19. BTW - one or two of the brown paper bag series had print in yellow ink - almost unreadable! The only one I kept is the Randy Weston - 'cause it includes four cuts from the UA LP "Destry Rides Again" that wasn't included in the Mosaic Select upon Randy's request. I find the remastering for the CDs much better, and the Elvin Jones "The Prime Element" had some ugly audible edits!
  20. That was part of the Mercury Kirk box - you don't have that one? You should, as there are several alternates not issued on LP.
  21. There's a rare Gildo Mahones session on Prestige with Larry Young in the band, too!
  22. Abercrombie's no stranger to organ combos! He grew up playing in them, and has led his own organ trios quite often - "Timeless" on ECM with Jan Hammer and Jack deJohnette is a classic. In the 1990's he had a trio with organist Dan Wall, and has been on most of organist Jeff Palmer's albums.
  23. Yes - I got the new RVG CD for the same reason!
  24. There was a Noah Howard LP with Kenny Clarke, too.
  25. I thinkl those labels will rather go for Hybrid SACDs right now, which are gold-plated, I think. Mobile Fidelity's recent jazz SACDs are.
