  1. A big hug for my buddy Big Al - what would I do without you! Happy Birthday, and many more to come!
  2. That's what I should have said - he listed them, but no details of the session.
  3. So it still exists? One Italian board member used to write for this, I can't recall his name right now ...
  4. Still quite busy with our Move's aftermath, sorting out papers, but nevertheless ... I'm in.
  5. I was always curious about these two singles ... Ruppli omitted non-jazz records, at least in the first edition I have.
  6. I don't have these, so I will get this CD ...
  7. Someone debited my credit card with 15 x € 15 or something like that two or three years ago - it was obvious it was a hoax. Whoever did it had no benefit as it was credited to two companies, who willingly admitted they hadn't had any business with me. I was refunded the next month. But my wife almost went nuts over the incident. I got a new card and nothing similar has happened ever since.
  8. Just saw there is a link to the survey on the Blue Note website as well.
  9. It was e-mailed to subscribers of the Blue Note e-mail newsletter. Some rather typical questionnaire to find out what the recipients like about the newsletter etc. - more aimed at the topic of marketing strategies than the musical content chewy adresses. No room for individual comments, anyway.
  10. The Doctor's latest was dropped in my mailbox yesterday - it's a blast!!! Herlin Riley deserves credit for his creative approach merging New Orleans drumming traditions with funky textures - the success of this album is largely due to his fine grooves. His playing is far superior to that of the drummers on the Doctor's previous two Palmetto releases - and those on the Javon Jackson CDs he is on. (Tereon Gully with his stone funk is a close second. This is proof how much a good drummer can lift a whole session to new heights. The Doctor and Peter Berstein play one good solo after another, and I didn't know how well Donald Harrison could do in an organ combo. Great. My first candidate for B3 album of 2009. Like Jim said, finally the Doctor's music is represented the way he deserves.

    Ian Carr RIP

Another one gone ... I played one of the Nucleus LPs quite often back then, the programmatic "Labyrinth". Other wise I found their music a little too cool, but he sure was a fine trumpeter. Didn't know he was already 75 ... R.I.P.

    Mat Mathews

Another original gone ..... R.I.P. I have several of his albums - he was among those creative miscellaneous instruments players at that time, with Oscar pettiford, Julius Watkins, Herbie Mann ... these are all nice albums.
  13. I can't remember seeing any MPS material on any Fresh Sound distributed label prior to that one.
  14. I don't have the remastered and expanded CD set. Have the 3-track tapes already been used for that one, and idoes it contain the complete recordings like this new LP set? Orrin Keepnews, who produced the Columbia double CD released in 2000, says it includes everything issuable - he mentions some tracks are incomplete. The credits state it was remixed and transferred from the three-track analog tapes. The two CDs include 148 minutes of music - when Mosaic releases a track list I can compare.
  15. I second that part of the emotion ...

    The Bolton cover, fwiw ...
  17. That reminds me of some liner notes where the author formulated what most musicians wanted after the gig: a long cool drink and a petite hot chick ...
  18. Still waiting for these chicks to drop by after my wife leaves for work tomorrow ...
  19. Many thanks my dear friends! My wife had secretly ordered cake and some foodstuffs and called all our friends living in the area to drop by - we had open house from breakfast time, and all of them liked the new house (we were still putting some books on shelves and sweeping the kitchen floor when the first arrived ... ) and in the evening, an hour after everybody had left, a befriended couple dropped in, bringing bread and salt (an old custom here to bring to people that just moved in) and exchanging family stories until midnite. Nice day to start feeling at home here. In a few weeks all our stuff will be here and I can resume my full posting schedule
  20. Now did Chester ever do a CD playing like that? Geez ....
  21. Some major figure passing away almost every day! Sad times ... R.I.P.
  22. I wish we had organists like that over here!
