  1. Well, that means it should have arrived about 3 days ago. Have you checked your mailbox?
  2. Well, despite my account status as still "backordered", my copy of the Ike Quebec Conn arrived today!!!
  3. I like Douglas, but don't necessarily consider him "innovative" in the sense that is being discussed. I find him to be creative and prolific, and likes to try alot of different configurations. Don't see anything wrong with that. I also like Terence Blanchard, out of the current crop of trumpet players. Not sure he's innovative either. edited for typo.
  4. It still sounds like anecdotal evidence to me. People that are doing this say "lots of people i know do it" and "i buy music anyway so who cares if download it illegally". As Chuck asked, I'd like to see statistics that support your claim that downloading music illegally leads to increased sales of legal music. I'd love to have 100x more music than I own. But I won't download stuff illegally to make that happen. I'll buy stuff as I can, when I'm able to do so. Why not just walk into your local Best Buy and try to walk out with CD's without paying for them? How is it any different?
  5. Jazzmoose, Jazzmoose.... oops I mean Free for All, Free for All....
  6. bump... I just recently picked up both the "Live at the Bimhuis" discs and "Keystone". They're both keepers for me. Keystone grabbed me quicker upon first listen, which means that the Bimhuis set will probably end up being the one I like better of the two over the long haul. Two thumbs up!
  7. Alexander - Did you read the below comments about copyright? You still don't care that you're creating an additional copy of an artist's work, for which that artist receives no compensation? In the case of purchasing a used cd, i still maintain that the artist/producer received compensation for that copy. So what that ownership of that copy changed hands, and so what that there is an after-market that profits from the re-sale of that item.
  8. Extending that logic across the marketplace would mean that no used cars could be sold. Or used houses.
  9. There have been previous discussions about this on the board. Purchasing a used cd or lp is quite different. That used copy was (presumedly) legitimately purchased, and therefore royalties and income were duly paid. Ownership of that copy is transferred upon purchase. If 10,000 copies of that particular title were sold, the creators got what they were owed for those 10,000 copies. If every owner of a legitimate copy of a release that sold 10,000 copies created a copy for a friend, then there would be 20,000 copies in existence, for which the creators only account for 10,000. If you're a musician or a producer, is that ok to you?

  11. I would think burning copies of music that HE owns, for his own use, is up to him. MP3 copies, Ipod, backup cdr, compilation, whatever. But borrowing someone else's CD to burn a copy of it is different. That's where the creator of that music is being deprived of a sale. It's easy to dismiss this if you're the beneficiary of "free" music and aren't impacted negatively, but someone else is losing income because you chose to do that. Is it ok if I burn a copy of my AEC box for Alex, or anyone else? Would Chuck care?
  12. If the package they send you weighs less than 2 kilograms, Zweitausendeins' shipping to the U.S. is 22 Euros. If the package is over 2 kg, shipping is 32 Euros. Assuming the Evans box is less than 2 kg, it would cost you 46.99 Euros, or $56.90, shipped.
  13. Not only is it bad, it's illegal.
  14. When I got my first computer with a CD recorder a few years back, the only thing i could figure that it was good for was making compilation cds for my own use. I never considered blatantly copying any of my music for others. It doesn't seem right to me, not to mention anything about legalities. Hell, I'm having problems justifying my recent purchase of a couple of Definitive/Disconforme cd's. Maybe it is an age thing (I'm 40). Or maybe the concept of stealing intellectual property just doesn't bother some, I dunno.
  15. The first disc in my queue has been the Saluzzi/Christensen "Senderos", for a couple of months now. It gets backordered & cancelled, and they send me the next item. I don't mind, but I have a feeling I'll never get the Saluzzi. So this month, the second item in my queue is Gabor Szabo's "Spellbinder". This arrived in today's mail. However, checking my account, it was just shipped from yourmusic today! I have a feeling I'm going to be getting an extra copy of this in a few days.... edit - my Ike Quebec is still backordered too
  16. Web Sudoku No pencil/pen/paper required...
  17. Thanks for the replies. The Definitive liner notes (which I'd pretty much ignored as superficial biography) cleared this up further - the Gillespie & Gaillard sessions were originally on the Continental and BelTone labels, and later published by Savoy. Not sure where the Red Norvo came from, but it still includes Parker, so I won't complain. And the Carnegie Hall tracks are considered "bonus".
  18. Ok, so yourmusic.com now offers the Parker Savoy & Dial Master Takes 3 disc set. I have just recently purchased the "Complete Dial Sessions Master Takes" and "Complete Savoy Masters" on Definitive Records. I know, I know...I feel morally conflicted by purchasing these, but they were cheap, and I figured if the sound quality was good, I'd replace them with the legitimate release anyway. So after a few spins, I decided the sound quality was just fine (and assume it's essentially identical to the Savoy & Dial Master Takes). However, the Definitive sets are 2 cds each, and full. So after comparing track lists, it appears the 3 disc set is missing the following: Dizzy Gillespie Sextet - 28 Feb 1945 - "Groovin High" - "All the Things You Are" - "Dizzy Atmosphere" Red Norvo and his Selected Sextet - 6 June 1945 - "Hallelujah" - "Get Happy" - "Slam Slam Blues" - "Congo Blues" Slim Gaillard Orchestra - 29 Dec 1945 - "Dizzy's Boogie" - "Flat Foot Floogie" - "Poppity Pop" - "Slim's Jam" Dizzy/Parker/J. Lewis/A. McKibbon/J. Harris - Carnegie Hall, 29 Sept 1947 - "A Night in Tunisia" - "Dizzy Atmosphere" - "Groovin' High" - "Confirmation" - "Koko" This confuses me. Why were these sessions left off the Master Takes box? I'm wondering if I shouldn't hang on to these Definitive sets, since they seem to be "more complete"?
  19. I'm still stuck on him as Rudy, too...

  23. I've been surfing videos at youtube.com over the past few days, having recently discovered them. There are some interesting things there, both musically and otherwise. This one is a fun blast from the past: Herbie Hancock - Rockit live in 1984 And here's an interesting Monk video... Thelonious Monk 1966 Anybody else find any noteworthy there?
  24. I love Power to Believe. I think it's their best studio disc since Discipline. Though I'm not sure there were THAT many contenders between the two. I like the ProjeKct stuff alot as well. And for anyone looking, Power to Believe is also available at yourmusic.com for $5.99.
  25. ...anyone want to volunteer to rip their sticker off to see what offensive language is underneath?
