  1. I have been almost totally housebound through the current time, and am not keen on the idea of going to the post office, but I have three CD's I need to mail to another board member. I have internet, printer, etc. and have a scale, but do not have and have not used labels. Does anyone have suggestion on how I can use online postage to mail this small package, without paying for something like a monthly stamps.com subscription, something where I can print the postage on regular paper and tape or glue it to my package? I don't want to just stick stamps on the package because I really want a tracking number. May seem like a stupid question, but it's all new to me, thanks.
  2. Our Covid-19 threads come and go. We can name them like Zappa used to name those "Play Yer Guitar" albums (" Return of the Son of Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar" ,etc.).
  3. Civic Responsibility is defined as the "responsibility of a citizen" (Dictionary.com). It is comprised of actions and attitudes associated with democratic governance and social participation. ... Citizenship means "a productive, responsible, caring and contributing member of society." (ibid.).

    Frank Zappa

They cretainly could sing, just chose not to on those albums. I don't disagree with the sentiment that the change in direction did musical good ("Waka/Jawaka" and "The Grand Wazoo" are favorites), though sorry for Zappa's injury on many levels.

    RIP Betty Wright

Enjoyed her early work. Very bright and talented. RIP.

    Frank Zappa

Me too, but nowhere near $60 curious.

  8. 1977 to 1986 were all pretty good years, but something totally different than the previous decade, which had several great years.
  9. Can't imagine why
  10. And ironically, access to the music is more open than ever. I remember when the idea of hearing some old, out of print Blue Note album (McLean's "A Fickle Sonance" was the holy grail) seemed like nothing more than a pipe dream.
  11. I've not heard any of those clips before, though I've heard OF some of them. I actually really like those Joe Pass cuts (will look for CD of them), abhor the Sebesky cut, and find the Shank's somewhere in the middle. I agree TTK has a marvelous troll on hand here. Me, I listen to the Lovin' Spoonful, (Young) Rascals, Stan Kenton, Don Sebesky, Bud Shank, and Joe Pass. All of 'em. But I'm not "today's generation", I'm their old father or young grandfather.
  12. Yes, first one is the toughest. Comfort and blessings to you and your sister.
  13. And who would have thought that?
  14. Yes, all in one sitting, AKA "how my ears spent much of my work day". I was fairly stunned at how much I liked the saxophone only albums, as I was never big on the World Saxophone Quarter, but Hemphill calling all the shots brings a great grace to the proceedings.

    Bob Dylan corner

Good to know. I've not actually heard anything from them. But I have vivid memories of the Christmas album (which is like the greatest Dylan parody imaginable, except it's a self-parody), and feared they would strike the same chord.
  16. Clarifying two of my answers. I have masks, haven't worn them because I have not gone out in public in almost two months. When I do, I will look like the Lone Ranger ("Who was that masked man?"). I chose the middling answer on the last question because my county (Montgomery County, PA) has been totally outstanding, and our County Commissioner, Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, has even been interviewed on Rachel Maddow about our approach: https://montco.today/2020/04/video-on-rachael-maddow-show-arkoosh-describes-the-hit-montgomery-countys-long-term-care-residents-and-staff-are-taking/ . The Washington Post (think it was them, not NYT), published a study of stay-at-home rates by county in the USA, and we were at 97%, as high as any county in the USA from what I could see. Pennsylvania State approach by Gov. Wolf has seemed totally reasonable to me also. Much of the federal botched response, on the other hand, is terribly troubling, and I think the nightmare is already shifting from the coasts to the middle of the country.
  17. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084DGFS18/?tag=thesecdis-20 His prime period. I will wait for reviews of sound quality before ordering. On the Angel Air label, which isn't always the highest of fidelity, but I believe is fully legit as far as licensing, etc.

    Bob Dylan corner

For the first time in 20 years (since the mighty 'Time Out of Mind'), I can enthusiastically say I'm "in" for new music by him. I've faithfully picked up the archive releases, and eventually gotten around to the new stuff one way or another (except the Sinatra covers).
  19. I had two shipments from Russia which took almost two months, and another which is going on two months and still is somewhere between the Atlantic Ocean and Newark, though it did ship.
  20. Did I miss the 50th of "Live/Dead", or did they not do one? If not, do we know why? "Live/Dead" is my favorite album of theirs - not saying it is their best, but it has the longest run and fondest memories for me.
